Passport-Birth Certificate Problems?

When I applied for my passport, it was mentioned that my short form birth certificate might be a problem. It is a properly certified birth certificate, but it seems that 11 years ago, they were using a short form abstract.

 

Has anyone been refused a passport because of that? I am not sure if I should call and see if I need to order a new birth cert, or wait and let them call me.

Never hurts to have a spare birth certificate.

I just had a similar issue. I was told that my birth certificate was invalid (she couldn't really explain why) so I had to order a new one from the state I was born in. I have been to several countries on cruises with it, so don't know why know it doesn't work!

When I got mine a few eyars ago - they expressed concern that my state issued did not have a raised seal just a multi colored seal. I got my passport just fine.

I believe it depends on what data is or is not on your short form BC. Some of the short forms apparently don't include all the necessary information.

This happened with my kids passports. They would not process with the abstract one. I went down to the county office and they exchanged it on the spot. Was not really a hassle.

2 years ago my older brother just had the short form BC and when we went to get his passport, the lady wouldn't take it. So I had to go to the health department and get him a new one.

 

Back in June, I helped two older people who only had the short form BC go on a cruise. The lady at the health department told them that the cruise lines wouldn't take the older birth certificate. I ordered them new ones.
