What do you do when you first get on the ship?

Hi all. I'm boarding Liberty of the Seas 9/15 and am trying to make a list of all the things I need to do when I get on the ship. I know there was a thread ahwile back about this but I can't locate it. Anyone have a link?

If you feel like it, let me know what YOU do when you first get on the ship (dining reservations, spa reservations, check dining room table)

Thanks!

I go to the bar and get a drink - then walk around with a big smile on my face. I usually head off to make a spa appt and then to the pool or maybe the WJ. I have never eaten at any of the speciality restaurants (don't have the ability to sit still that long) so that is not a worry for me.

Enjoy!

1. Check cabin / drop off carry-on

2. Get drinkie-poo

3. Yell at children to stay near by for muster drill

4. get another drinkie-poo

5. explore explore explore

6. find spa - make reservation

7. never done the specialty restaurants, judging from other threads they are a must this time.

8. get ready to sail away and not do another damn thing for at least 7 days!

9. wave to the coast guard escort vessel while leaving port with drinkie-poo in other hand

10. Oh yeah, we eat somewhere between drinkie-poos and dawn the next day.

Enjoy your vacation!!!:D

When I first get onto the ship and I enter the atrium...I step into it and savor the moment...it is one of the truly relaxing and overwhelming times of the whole trip...the beauty of the atrium sets me up for a wonderful voyage...instead of running here and there...take a moment to soak in the magnificence and beauty of the RCI fleet.

one of the first things I did on my last cruise, it was a 4 day on the Monarch,

I took my cell phone and called my son.(30 yo) and reminded him that I am on vacation. (OK i don't remind him I rub it in) some how I called abut one hour before he had to go to work. funny how that worked out.

From my manuel,"Big Al's Guide To Cruising":

I recommend getting to the terminal by noon for several reasons: first, there may be as many as 3500 people trying to board the ship all within 3-4 hours,so that’s a lot of check ins! Second, you may want to eat lunch and all cruise ships have a buffet ready for you..and many ships do not allow you to go to your cabin till a certain time-that is to make sure all staterooms have been cleared and cleaned.Often it is 2-3 PM.... which leads me to the third reason-EXPLORE THE SHIP!! One of the first things you need to do is check your dining room assignments-that is find out what table you’re dining at,what seating (early, late),and with how many other people unless you are traveling in a group(s) and are all sitting together…Some cruise lines have tables for 2,but these are not easy to get.Nevertheless,if you would like to dine with just your spouse/friend/Significant other, you must request that.Go see the Maitre D’ usually found at the entrance to the dining room.I request a table for 2 each time I make a reservation. They will tell you they cannot guarantee a table for 2 and that you must check with the Maitre D’ when you board-which is what you will do..IMPORTANT:I urge you to try the alternative restaurants on most of the newer ships. These require a fee, usually $15-30 pp,and a reservation. So go to that venue and make a reservation…on RCL,it might be Chops or Portifinos,on Carnival, the Supper Club,on Disney,it’s called Palo,on NCL,Le Bistro, and many others….you can check the dinner menus usually at Guest Services to see what nights you don’t or would rather miss…I.E,.if you love Lobster, don’t dine out of the main dining room on that night…Most of the time you will be handed a guide or “deckplan” of the ship.If it’s not time to check Go to your cabin, walk around and see the ship and the ship’s layout.

Some of the areas you will need to know are:on what deck is my cabin? Usually your cabin number starts with the deck your on,so cabin # 8224 would be on deck 8….odd cabin #’s are on one side, even # on the other..Where is the dining room(S)? Usually, dining rooms are on the Main deck, sometimes that is decks 4,5,or 6.How about the pool(s) Okay-time to go to check out your cabin! If you’re lucky, you have a balcony cabin.Your ship credit card also opens your cabin..as you walk in,you’ll notice a few things:TV is on to the ship’s information channel..there should be a pamphlet /guide on your bed or table. On RCL,it is called the Cruise Compass. On Princess, the Princess Patter..on Carnival,Carnival Capers, and so on.This pamphlet tells you what’s going on every day and night on the ship. You get it every evening the night before when the cabin attendant turns down your beds.As you browse thru it,you will see the next day’s activities in chronological order:AM activities on P.2,afternoon maybe on P.3 and the evening’s entertainment and activities on the last page. Also included is info on all the bars & lounges as far as opening & closing times, alternative restaurants info, all the times of the shows, performers…we look at it as soon as we get back to the cabin before we go to sleep. You can plan which shows/activities/lounges you want to see. Most of the major production shows (there are usually 2-3 on 7 night cruise) have 2 show times-8/8:30/9 and 10/10:30/11 PM..this is to accommodate passengers who eat at the early dining as well as late seating. If there’s a “70’s night disco party” in one area of the ship at say,10PM,then you could see the main show at 8,get out at 9,go to the Pub for a drink, then go to the 70’S party..main production shows often are lavish musicals similar to Broadway/Las Vegas style shows with lots of singing and dancing. There is usually also a comedian,magician,jugglers/acrobatics,impersonators,etc…we love going to the shows, but others do not-it’s up to you. There are always things to do,see, hear, etc.

After you have checked your dining assignments, eaten, gone to your cabin, and explored the ship,a bit,go explore some more!! A large cruise ship takes a few hours to get around and see all the public areas…Note: The ship’s shops and casino are not open till after you depart your home port..that is rule regulated by the Cruise industry.A few miles out (usually about 30-60 min after you leave),everything will open.

Hope this helps......have a great cruise!! We will be on the Liberty Nov.10 for our 18th cruise....

Once you board.... just stop and enjoy/ aka "smell the roses"..... very likely someone will offer you a drink.... if you are in the mood... go for it.... then just enjoy a few more minutes.... then off you go to all the choices you have made from the previous suggestions.:)

1) Go straight to the dining room to have the Maitre d' release our table assignment for the entire cruise.

2) Get one soda package...we always find a way to "share" it during the cruise.

3) Immediately make reservations in the spa during one of our 'in-port' days

4) Go check out the cabin ... and having packed our swimsuits in our carry on bags, get changed and go to one of the whirlpools...after stopping first to get a glass of wine

5) Muster Drill

6) Back to the whirlpool while everyone else rushes around to get ready for dinner in the formal dining room

7) A quiet relaxing dinner in the Windjammer

8) To our cabin to enjoy the first evening on our balcony.

Since our day is usually very long (seems we have connecting flights everytime we cruise and usually leave about 3 am) by the time we finally board, we head straight for lunch! Then to the staterooms (if luggage is there.. most is getting unpacked so that part is over)and then explore time.

1. Have lunch in Windjammer

2. Drop our things in the cabin

3. Make reservations in Portofino or Chops (after checking the schedules for the week on the back of the Compass which will be on the bed in the cabin). We ALWAYS check the weekly schedule before making reservations, because the dining room menus and events often change from week-to-week, and cruise-to-cruise. That way, we are assured of not booking the wrong night.

4. Check our dining room table location. We have never changed tables. We just like to know where we will be seated, so that we know where to go when the doors open.
