Shore Excursion cancellation fee?

Is there a fee to cancel a shore excursion once it is booked? We are on the QV World and may find something else to do or someone to tour with once we have been on the ship for a while. Is there a fee if we cancel in plenty of time, 2 weeks or so before the tour? Thanks for any info. Jeanne

Jeno,

we cancelled several shore excursions during the Med Odyssey cruise in Jul and no cancellation fees were involved. As the excursions had all be pre-paid, our shipboard account was credited with the original cost in full. There is, however, a time limit after which you will get no refund if you cancel. I can't remember exactly how long this is but two weeks should be more than adequate. IIRC there are reminders about the time limit in the daily programmes.

We are just up the road in Safety Harbor, FL. We are on QV Jan 13 and we have not had any indication that we can pre book our land excursions. Where did you find that information? I would really like to do some pre-planning. Our TA told us that "we could always cancel if we chose not to go on a given excursion."

D2, I meant that if we got on in January and booked something for April, could we cancel at a later date prior to the shore excursions. Thanks for all of the info Jimmy. Jeanne

The list of excursions will have a deadline after which you cannot book tours for a particular port, or the deadline will be posted in the daily program. The booking deadline is usually the deadline for cancellations, too, because that's when the ship has to give their numbers to their tour agents. I think the deadline is generaly 2 days prior to arrival in each port, although the world cruise has some overnight tours that are more complicated and may have earlier booking/cancellation deadlines. Two weeks sounds like more than enough time to cancel a tour without losing any money.

Thanks Kathy,

We have been on many cruises in the past which operate just the way you describe. Then we were on one a year or two ago where they charged a 25% cancelation fee once you booked, no matter how long it was until the excursion. Just wanted to make sure that wasn't the case on Cunard.

Thanks, Jeanne
