Cautionary Statements on Excursions

I've been reviewing excursions for months and thought we had settled on the 4 x 4 tour in Barbados. Now I realize that they are putting cautions in for anyone having heart or back problems. Has anyone does this excursion? My husband has been treated for heart disease, but is not limited by his condition -- how strenuous is this trip? Should we avoid and do something tamer? The description did not sound that strenuous, however, I do understand that they have to cover themselves. Thanks!:o

I've been reviewing excursions for months

Has anyone done this excursion? My husband has been treated for heart disease,

The description did not sound that strenuous,

however, I do understand that they have to cover themselves.

I've been on one of these tours, and yes you do get bounced around a bit.

I also imagine that drivers take into account whether it's a young crowd back there

who may want thrills, or an elderly crowd in need of a more placid drive.

In other words, try to assemble eight of you who are all your age group

I'm sure that happens all the time.

The tour travels on sugar-cane plantation 'cart roads' as we call them,here on the island...rudimentary two-wheel tracks that'll take you places you wouldn't ordinarily go!

Believe me.. I've lived here for fifty-five years,

and I used to "off-road" a lot in my younger days,

using a Yamaha Enduro motorbike, along many of the island's cart-tracks

- and these guys took me places I'd never been or seen!!

 

Bear in mind that you'll be travelling in the back of a Land Rover/Jeep type thing,

and for those who can't take much bouncing around,

you might ask for the passenger seat in the cab,

next to the driver (as I did for part of the journey).

 

If that's already taken, try to get in the back, first

so you end up in the seat smack up against the cab,

so you avoid being in one of the rearmost seats

which are right over the back axle!! - as in Boing boing!

 

It's not a tour for the delicate, but it's not that bad either,

and I'm sure your driver will accommodate elderly groups

and drive to suit, even picking routes to suit.

They know SO many tracks they can pick and choose from,

depending on conditions.

 

When I went, it had recently been rainy and slushy

and there were tracks the driver said he wouldn't take,

because it was simply too slippery and dangerous,

so there's lotsa leeway as far as where he takes you guys.

 

You'll have fun: just talk to the driver

and let him know what your needs are!

i had a stroke 4 yrs ago..and the doctor s have said to take it a bit

easier and take my med s..:confused:

 

but, that has not prevent d me from doing several 4x4 excursion s in my jeep in the calif. sierra s...and on several occasion s these we re alot tougher/rougher than the excursion s in the Mexican Riviera..
