I have a friend at work who wants to take a cruise with her husband & daughter in December. Her daughter is in college. But she wants a christian-type cruise...where no alcohol is served. I've found some by surfing the web - but none in December. Can anyone help??

I want to take my mom on a christian cruise. I was thinking elijah list cruise would be great. They had one in March 07. Seems they have them at least yearly, but they are not talking about it on the web site yet. I need a long heads up to pay for this because it is alot more then I usually spend but I bet its well worth it. :)

I would suggest that your friend google "Christian Cruises". There are some Christian travel agencies out there, but board regulations prohibit me from posting names or links.

And there is one agency that charters the ships and I don't believe alcohol is served. The casino is also closed down and converted into a Christian bookstore.

You'd have to google for this agency's cruises ... I already got "whacked" once on this board for providing a link.

We will be taking our three 16-year olds on a cruise and are looking for a ship/line with less emphasis on boy-girl stuff (ie dancing, hot tubs, etc) in the teen club. We are a pretty conservative family and don't engage in dating activities. Any suggestions?

Our son has always enjoyed Club O2. Yes, they will have about an hour in the disco every night ...but mainly (especially on ships with dedicated Club O2 rooms) it is just a matter of meeting up and hanging out. I don't recall any hot tub activities...or it could be that our son just did not participate.

Your 16 year olds are always welcome to select which activities they want to participate in. Our 2 boys have always had a good time and both are very conservative.

I'm going on my first cruise in May on the Music Boat Cruise with Carnival featuring 17 of the top Christian music artists.... I'm taking my 17 and 14 year old daughter's with me. We are extremely excited!!!

I have no idea if they are shutting down the bars... but I know they have tons of things planned for on the cruise.

This will be my 17 year old's graduation present!

They would only be able to shut down the casino and the bars if the entire ship was chartered by the Christian cruise agency. When someone charters the ship, they have a lot of flexibility and can say they want the bars serving only non-alcoholic beverages for that cruise. They can also order the casino to go dark, change the dress codes to all casual or whatever, and institute a number of other changes from what you would see on a traditional cruise on that ship.

I know there is one Christian cruise agency that routinely charters ships for their events, and they have some big name Christian artists and speakers hosting their events. They turn the casino into a Christian book store for the week, and all of the bars serve non-alcoholic beverages. They also bring all their own entertainers onboard, so that in all the bars and lounges, and in the showroom, there is exclusively Christian music and entertainers.

But, if the Christian cruise is not a full ship charter, needless to say there will be others onboard who probably would not appreciate the casino being closed, and the bars to be serving only non-alcoholic beverages. They will also probably not appreciate having only Christian entertainment onboard, so the Christian group will have to have their entertainers in a separate venue onboard ... not in the main show lounge and certainly not in the bars or lounges.

So to determine what kind of an experience you will have onboard, you'll need to find out if this is a Christian group charter or just a Christian group cruise taking place on a regular sailing of the vessel.

Whatever it turns out to be, have a great cruise!

if the casino is closed and there is no bar service..what happens to all of the workers during that week:eek:

The bar tenders would be still be working. The bars are not closed ... they just don't serve alcoholic beverages. The bar servers would still have to work, they would just be mixing "mocktails."

The casino workers could have training that week either on land or in the crew areas of the ship.

The entertainers too (assuming this was a full ship charter bringing along their own entertainment) would probably be deployed in other areas of the ship that week ... the library, the shops, the childrens' program staff ... whatever.

Believe me, the cruise lines won't "waste" their personnel. They'll find something to keep them busy even if they're not needed in their normal jobs that week.

May 19-23, and it's through the link above, but it is a Carnival cruise... It leaves from Miami, goes to Key West, then Calica Mexico, then back to Miami. All the entertainment is Christian. It is going to be amazing!!!

And it looks like the bars and casinos will be open (and serving alcohol). Just visited the site and noticed that. I was curious, since all the Christians I know drink and gamble, lol - I can't imagine an entire ship of people all opposed to casinos and alcohol!
