JPEvans Posted November 30, 2007 #176 Share Posted November 30, 2007 I had another look at the SOLSTICE deck plans. Celebrity has updated them. They now show the locations of the Solarium, the Aqua Spa, and Blu restaurant. I guess each time they reveal another tidbit about SOLSTICE, they will show the location on the deck plan until we have a completed set. Ernie That explains why I couldn't find any dining areas. I was thinking. "why would they design a ship with out dining areas?"
NorCalCruiseGuy Posted November 30, 2007 #177 Share Posted November 30, 2007 We were treated to a bit of inside info while on the Infinity last week regarding the Solstice. I admit it sounds a bit "out there" but it comes from a good source. Solstice will debut with a new concept for decking in many areas of the ship. Gone will be the rough decking, and even the lovely teak. What would you say if you were greeted with live turf beneath your feet? Yes, green, living grass. It seems they are still developing the concept, but don't be surprised if you see a lawn specialist as part of the crew when Solstice debuts. Please don't shoot the messenger. Paul P.S. Leave the weed wackers at home. They don't fit well in your suitcase.

The renderings probably don't show the green grass. They are still developing the concept and probably want to make a big deal of it when it is announced. NorCalCruiseGuy Posted November 30, 2007 #186 Share Posted November 30, 2007 That looks nasty. I vote no don't do it.:o The photo is the "green" roof of the CA Academy of Sciences. I doubt the decking would look like the photo. From the tidbits that have been released about Solstice, I imagine it will be quite unlike anything Celebrity, or the cruise industry has seen to date. Think innovation, while keeping the tone and sophistication of the Celebrity brand. Don't expect your grandmother's cruise ship.
kyrisong1 Posted November 30, 2007 #187 Share Posted November 30, 2007 I absolutely vote don't do it, my big excuse to my husband for cruising once in the fall and once in the spring is to get away from all the allergies, if they have grass I can't use that excuse!!!!!!! I like the nice wood decking . Cheers, Carole
DCT61 Posted November 30, 2007 #188 Share Posted November 30, 2007 I guess they are going to water this lawn to keep it green? Anyone want a room under the lawn deck? I can hear the complaints in the future..."the SOLSTICE is really going down hill on their maintenance...we were on the cruise a full week and they didnt mow the lawn one time"
Andy Posted November 30, 2007 #189 Share Posted November 30, 2007 Maybe if they need more sun, it will cause them to put a new ship in the Caribbean all year round. Wishful thinking... Hi Don ! Consider this a total rumor, but when I was on Constellation last week, I heard that Equinox is being considered for Year Round Caribbean from Ft Lauderdale. Here is an interesting idea.... Why not have Equinox do the 10/11 night Ultimate Caribbean itinerary that Constellation currently does during the Winter season, then have her do 7 night Alternating Eastern/Western Caribbean itineraries in the Summer months. This way, the ship would be more appealing to Families during the Summer. It sounds good to me. Of course, only time will tell if any of this happens or not. I think it would be great if 1 Celebrity ship was Year Round Caribbean. It seems as if every Cruiseline is overdeployed in Europe in 2009, so there could be some opportunities in the Caribbean. Even if it doesnt happen, the 4 new ships will give Celebrity many new options and itineraries, and that is great news for all of us. Stay Tuned. Andy Posted November 30, 2007 #190 Share Posted November 30, 2007 Hi Everyone ! Wouldnt real grass be very slippery when wet ? It sounds interesting, but I'm not sure how practical it would be.

It sounds interesting, but I'm not sure how practical it would be. It gets muddy too I'd guess, but perhaps they have some new cutting edge ideas in the works...like Picnic on the Seas...that might be fun.
Longboysfan Posted November 30, 2007 #193 Share Posted November 30, 2007 Hi Everyone ! Wouldnt real grass be very slippery when wet ? It sounds interesting, but I'm not sure how practical it would be. There are some types that are not so slippery. But keeping it alive in a salt environment.... Not good. They would have to have it inside a moveable dome. The slip factor may come into play with safety concerns. Or If they have a small putting green area on top that they use it for. Other than that - everyday use will wear it out.
Rare Mrs_Tiki Posted November 30, 2007 #194 Share Posted November 30, 2007 Does anyone remember that there was artificial turf on the roof areas outside the forward lounge on Sunrise deck? (It's now called Reflections, but think it was Explorer's Lounge before the whole Cirque fiasco.) DH and I were so surprised to look out the forward windows (on the Millie or the Connie, I can't remember which) to see a little roof area covered in what appeared to be Astroturf. Is it still there? We will have to check on the Summit in a few months:)

giblert Posted December 5, 2007 #198 Share Posted December 5, 2007 Is there any hint as to what Soltice's schedule will take it after its initial run in the Caribbean? jt1120 Posted December 6, 2007 #199 Share Posted December 6, 2007 I'm relatively new on the board, so forgive my tardiness for posting here. All I can say is, I've been Jonesing to cruise on this ship since I got the postcard in the mail from Celebrity announcing this beauty! I told my wife that we just had to book this ship, so we are booked on the inaugural. An earlier poster said it best - it looks like a ship of the future! Everything that I've seen is just stunning. We're the kind of cruisers that don't necessarily care about itinerary. Sometimes, it's all about the ship, and that was never more true that for this baby! Plus, it's always been my dream to cruise a ship on her maiden voyage. I am so stoked! Congrats, Celebrity, you continue to show why you are always a step ahead of the rest! C 2 C Posted December 6, 2007 #200 Share Posted December 6, 2007 Is there any hint as to what Solstice's schedule will take it after its initial run in the Caribbean? Has anyone heard if it's going to Europe (and the potential of a Soltice TA) ? Captain Papanikolaou on board Constellation (Nov 6th) said that Solstice would replace Millennium's 2007 (2008 Summit's) Mediterranean itineraries.
