Cruises in Signatures

What a nice thread. I have not put my cruises on my signature because I thought that people might get the wrong impression. A few years ago we sold our overvalued vacation home & larger primary home and moved into a smaller home where our upkeep is next to nothing. The savings allows us to cruise once a month so that's what we have done for the past few years. We do a lot of research then always booked the best deals. The number of cruises have started adding up. We are retired but still too young for social security but we feel like we are nearing the age where if we don't do it now, we may not be able to later. It's gotten to the point that we don't even tell anyone (except on this board) about our cruises because some people will make you feel guilty about cruising so much. It's so nice to a forum that we can come together and discuss our cruising without anyone having a problem with " You're going on ANOTHER cruise" with eyebrows lifted to the ceiling. I have yet to find any post on this board that condemned anyone for their cruising habits. Got to love that!

I agree with you on that...sometimes I almost feel embarrassed that we've cruised so often....I did say almost;)

A little bit different that today! My first cruise on the Mardi Gras was quite interesting. My room was across the hall from the movie theater (yes, a real one!) and the best part was that you could sit on the john and take a shower at the same time! Verrrry interesting!

The shows weren't as fancy, dinner was a real event -- including the flaming baked alaska parade where they carried them on their heads. I'm sure this is (and was) a fire hazard!

Instead of towel animals, you left your nightie out and they would arrange that in different shapes. The one I remember the most was an anchor!

In addition to the big casino, there was a little room that had nickel and dime slot machines that the kids played. My daughter (she was 12 at the time) would keep coming and asking me for more nickels and dimes. They didn't say anything back then because we were in international waters.

If I remember correctly, our ship was around 27,000 tons -- a big difference to today's mega-liners!

I could go on and on here!

Thanks for sharing this! I really enjoyed hearing about what it was like years ago.... I have been curious since I started cruising.

As for signatures.... well, I have one with my meager three cruises.... but I do like to see where others have been and when! :)

I, too, love looking at people's signatures and love putting mine out there as well even though I don't post often. I haven't come across anyone on any of the same past cruises as me but that would be cool. We have just one more month now until sail away and we got our cruise docs earlier this week so I'm getting SOOO excited!:D I've already got ants in the pants for 2008 and am working hard for that Platinum status.

It can be a good judge of the posters comments. If someone has something good or bad to say about a particular cruise or port and they have cruised that line or ship before their opinion holds a little more weight for me.

Opinions are fun to read, they describe themselves to other posters. Cruise reviews do the same thing. Most times you can get a feeling of what kind of person wrote the review. Its nice to see where everybody has been and where they are going.

I like to see everyone's different countdown clocks. But I could care less about how many cruises you've gone on. I don't list mine, because I don't think it matters one way or the other.

I like more the funny signature lines some people have.

Guess Im the opposite. I like seeing the cruise history but find some of the countdown clocks really slow my scrolling down. Wish I could have the history without the clocks

Me too. I'd hate to think someone was posting a lot of opinions and found they hadn't been on a particular cruise, ship or line.

Helps put creedance to the post. Especially on posters we "don't know".

But say someone you don't "know" comes along with an opinion. How would you ever know if they really went on any of the cruises they listed? Like someone could put down, a fairly normal amount of cruises, say a dozen or so.

Do you grill them on each and every cruise before you decide to take their opinion as real? Or is it just because they list the dozen cruises that you feel their opinion carries more credence?

Like I said, it doesn't matter to me if you 've been on a dozen or one. Basically most people who offer up an opinion about a line or a ship, usually have had experience sailing on it. And not one person's experience is going to mirror anothers.

Just about everyone on this board loves the miracle. I loved, loved my cabin, because it was an aft wrap suite which I think is the best suite out of the entire carnival line, but the ship was so-so to me. Unique, yes. Would I go out of my way to ever book it again? no. Yet I'd sail on the glory again, happily. And we do sail certain ships more than once.

Does anyone else enjoy checking out the past/upcoming cruises in posters' signatures?

I aspire to have as many past cruises as some people...

I love finding out where people are going...

I feel excited for those people who's countdown is down to single digits....

It brings back great memories to see people who have been on the same ships/itineraries I've been on....

Sometimes, even the countdown clock itself is interesting.....

I'm with you on all counts.:)

I love looking at the signatures. When I first joined Cruise Critic years ago the signatures were always on the bottom of the posts. Now they're not there anymore. Did I accidentally turn something off? I just updated my signature when I booked my last cruise, but still don't see it on my posts. Maybe someone knows what I'm doing wrong!

It's a cruise message board. I seriously don't think about it THAT much.

When I first joined this website, I saw that posting your past cruise were the norm so I did the same. Today I use this as a guideline to see if this person is talking from his/her behind or is really talking from experience.

Its like using the Feedback on Ebay, same concept for me. I would rather take the info someone posted that has 40+ cruises behind their belt then with a person that has 1.

As you can see, Mr. Pete has never been on a cruise so I would never beleive anything he has to say :D :D :D :)
