Cruises in Signatures

IPS I also like the ones who have cruised back in the 80's. I wonder what cruising was like then?

A little bit different that today! My first cruise on the Mardi Gras was quite interesting. My room was across the hall from the movie theater (yes, a real one!) and the best part was that you could sit on the john and take a shower at the same time! Verrrry interesting!

The shows weren't as fancy, dinner was a real event -- including the flaming baked alaska parade where they carried them on their heads. I'm sure this is (and was) a fire hazard!

Instead of towel animals, you left your nightie out and they would arrange that in different shapes. The one I remember the most was an anchor!

In addition to the big casino, there was a little room that had nickel and dime slot machines that the kids played. My daughter (she was 12 at the time) would keep coming and asking me for more nickels and dimes. They didn't say anything back then because we were in international waters.

If I remember correctly, our ship was around 27,000 tons -- a big difference to today's mega-liners!

I could go on and on here!

What a nice thread. I have not put my cruises on my signature because I thought that people might get the wrong impression. A few years ago we sold our overvalued vacation home & larger primary home and moved into a smaller home where our upkeep is next to nothing. The savings allows us to cruise once a month so that's what we have done for the past few years. We do a lot of research then always booked the best deals. The number of cruises have started adding up. We are retired but still too young for social security but we feel like we are nearing the age where if we don't do it now, we may not be able to later. It's gotten to the point that we don't even tell anyone (except on this board) about our cruises because some people will make you feel guilty about cruising so much. It's so nice to a forum that we can come together and discuss our cruising without anyone having a problem with " You're going on ANOTHER cruise" with eyebrows lifted to the ceiling. I have yet to find any post on this board that condemned anyone for their cruising habits. Got to love that!

No. My hubby spent some time in LA and fell in love with Abita Turbo Dog beer. We decided to name our Lab after it!:D

Are you from the Abita area?

Yes. I grew up in the town next door. I live in Texas now and it always brings a smile to my face when I see a bottle of Abita Beer! So - thanks for bringing a smile to my face today! (Although I was already smiling because I am leaving on my trip tomorrow) :D

Go to one of the glitter signatures, right click, and it should give you the address, good luck.

These are the kinds of stories I love. Folks who have worked hard, been responsible with their finances and are really enjoying the fruit of their labor now!!!

Hubby no longer tells co-workers when he is going on a cruise. They act like he is vacationing in Sweden for a month or something....when in reality, he is probably paying less than they did to spend a week at the beach in Florida.

Those that have truly "listened" to the financial wisdom of cruising are now addicted themselves. :)

I'm new to this board, but yes I like the listings in signatures. I own a few time shares on the coast, but if I had discovered cruising first, I can't say that I would've ever bought the first timeshare. Now I'm trying to convince the DW to let me shed some of them so that we can cruise more. I aspire to have a long list of past cruises like some that I see on here.:)

I'm under the impression t hat you are extremly lucky to be able to cruise that much. I wish:( , but we still have to work for a living plus drive 12 hours or fly to get to a port. Dinner cruises on Lake Ontario just isn't the same thing. I look at seeing people's cruise stats as inspiring me to book another, or at least start looking.

I don't know why people "raise their eyebrows" when we go on "another cruise??", but they do. I guess the un-cruised just don't know how affordable it can be. Glad to hear you're enjoying your retirement. You know what my dream is... a world cruise. Oooohhh!:p

Put me in the YES column for the sigs. It gives me more of an incentive to find the best bargains to cruise again. Our 2nd cruise is coming up and with the knowledge gained from the 1st it is costing us half as much.

You know, retirement on a cruise ship sounds great. B2B2B2B2B2B . . .
