NCL-Star Speciality Restaurants

We are planning a cruise on the Star for October 2005 to Mexico.

Does anyone have a list of the speciality restaurants aboard the Star?

Cost of each restaurant?

Type of food served?

Thank you for your help.

While there have been changes to the restaurant

selection, you can check out our December cruise

while she was still doing Hawaii/Fanning.

If you have any liking for Oriental food, Ginza is

a great restaurant and well worth the extra

charge. Our website has images of the

Freestyle Dailies that list the restaurants

and charges. Hope you also get some more

recent info from other cruisers. Say helllo

to Tony Lockett for us, he runs a great food operation,

and is a very nice guy!

Hope this helps.

Judimouse, what date are you on the Star in October? My husband and I are on the October 20 sailing! Here is what I know about the specialty restaurants on the Star since she left Hawaii, hopefully the info is correct but it could have changed again. And I'm not sure what the surcharge restaurant cost is now, if it has gone up from $10 per person.

(Oh also, if you are interested, the Star now has a casino as well!)

Cagney's, a 1930's style American steak house (surcharge) (replaced Las Ramblas tapas bar)

Versailles (main dining room, ornate decor)

Aqua (main dining room, modern decor)

Le Bistro, Continental menu (surcharge)

Ginza, with a sushi bar, sake bar and separate Teppanyaki room (surcharge for Teppanyaki, a la carte for Ginza)

La Trattoria, Italian (reservation required but no extra charge)

Endless Summer, Tex Mex and Tapas (reservation required but no extra charge)

SoHo, contemporary "Pacific Rim" (reservation required but no extra charge)

Blue Lagoon, the only 24-hour restaurant, hamburgers, soup, noodles, stir fry

Market Cafe, buffet

Java Café, premium coffees and dessert (a la carte)

I THINK I got them all (sorry I didn't include the bars), I hope this helps. Go check out the Norwegian Roll Call section if you are interested in finding other Cruise Critics. We are all trying to arrange get togethers on the various Mexican Riviera sailings.

Our group will be on the October 8, 2005 sailing. Hope to have at least 50 on the cruise.

Thank you so much for the info on the restaurants.

Think I better have my TA start working on a package for us. We want a cocktail party, a high tea, dinner at one or two of the speciality restaurants and ??? Any suggestions of add-ons for the cruise?

Thanks for your help.

The Blue Lagoon had the BEST fish and chips when were were on the Star

last time! Also, if you like Buffalo chicken wings, they will make them

hot for you, but you have to "train" the crew to really add the

heat.

In our experience of two Star cruises last year, service in Versailles

was uneven, VERY uneven at breakfast. Aqua had better service for

us, but be aware that they rotate the serving staff daily. You may

or may not see the same people.

Would love to try Endless Summer this time, since their take on

Hawaiian food was not very interesting.

Again, cannot rave enough about Ginza. During the Hawaiian runs,

you paid $10 and had all-you-can-eat sushi from the conveyer

belt. Or you paid $10 and ordered from a menu that had a variety

of Oriental dishes, with plenty of flexibility of choices. The

staff was great! Friends we met through CC went to tepanyaki

and liked it, but you pay a premium depending on what

you order.

They had lobster night one night on the cruise, with lobster

served in every restaurant (yes, even on the buffet). However,

you could order lobster (for a stiff premium) every night

in one of the pay restaurants (soho? can't remember).

Have fun!
