free champagne when boarding

Recommended Posts

I was on Spleandor in April. They passed out champagne and mimosas to platinum and above as you boarded.Very Nice! On my next cruise (liberty on sept.1) I asked about it at check in and they looked at me like i was crazy. they said RC does not do that. Anyone else get Champagne? Maybe only certain ports?

I have experienced it ONLY twice & both times on Splendour. I think it has something to do with their Hotel Manager--same one that took it upon himself to make the card room a concierge lounge. have been on the Rhapsody & MOnarch since & neither did anything like that.:(

The Grandeur is now offering that little bonus to its Platinum and Diamond and Diamond Plus guests. I was on the Splendour in March, out of Galveston and they had the Champagne, Mimosa, or wine, also had some canapes. I heard the Hotel Manager that was on the Splendour is now on the Grandeur. So maybe the Hotel Manager has the option of offering this to the guests.

I thought the decision to serve a "Welcome Aboard" glass of champagne depended on the effectiveness of the liquor police in removing contraband bottles from the luggage of "would be" smugglers.

*lol* I guess on final day of cruise they tell you they lost your confiscated contraband... To that end I guess if you only wanted a bottle for the last night, you could try smuggling, if you don't get caught it's in the cabin all along....if you do, you get it the last night just as planned. :D

7 cruises on RCCL since 2002, and never had the ROYAL treatment like that, sounds great though, the only champagne I ever have is the one I send to ourselves the first day so it's waiting for me and my DH when we walk in the room! :D

WOW, how nice. :) We have never experienced that on an RCL ship, but I have heard that it is the standard on Celebrity. :)

Yes they do pbhunt, very nice .... the moment you step inboard an attendant hands you a glass of champagne and another takes your carry ons and you are escorted to your cabin , the guy opens the door deposits your bags and wishes you a wonderful vacation.......

MARVELOUS!

Funny thing is, we didn't get this treatment but did get a free drink on Splendour earlier this month. We did a Celebrity 7-night cruise to Bermuda back in 2003 and all you got was the drink in a souvenir glass, which to novice cruisers (us) looked complimentary, as all the waiters had them. Then, they whip out the bill for you to sign; left a sour taste in my mouth. ;) On Splendour earlier this month, we were offered the drink of the day in a small plastic cup (like the kind you serve wine in at a BBQ). I almost didn't take it because I figured they were going to charge us but they didn't. And we're not Diamond or Platinum or anything. I have to say it was a very nice way to be welcomed to a cruise. They also had a non-alcoholic version of the same drink.
