Can We Get Cash From Casino?

On Royal Caribbean cruises, we can request cash from the casino and use that for expenses other than gambling and it gets charged to our cruise card. Is that possible on NCL ships?

Yes. You can get a charge for casino cash put on your account at the Cashier. But then you have to take the slip they give you to a table to get chips. Obviously, once you have chips you can cash them out for cash at anytime.

if you tell the cashier you are playing slots they will give you cash. no fees, up to $2,000 (?) per day.

This was our experience too, on the Jewel last November. Kind of a pain, but it worked in the end. Next time, I'll try the hint about telling them I'm playing slots.

And of course with everyone doing this it will probably screw things up for those of us who actually want to get cash to play in the casino. I'm sure before long they'll start charging a fee for this like most cruise lines do. :(

One plus is that if you have an NCL credit card you can get points for future cruising. Check out this link. It is the second Sticky in this forum http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=588120. There are usually ATM's near the cashiers window also. Stay away from them. The charges are not cheap.

It's not something I'd normally plan on doing. Somehow, on our cruise on the Jewel, I'd just miscalculated how much cash I would need. Having the option of being able to get a little extra was nice, but I doubt once in five cruises is going to make them reconsider the policy.

I was about to say the same thing: The more the word gets out the quicker that 3% will be added to our account. Princess has done this for years, HAL was doing it last year. I think someone said Carnival charges as well. I am not positive about that.

I think they will continue to do it for awhile. After all, the bulk of people that do it put some back in the slot machines. The "fee" to play the slots makes the ATM look good.

 

Besides, the ATM ALWAYS gives you money - more than most slots can do.
