Thanks, WeLoveCruising, and please thank your source, who is, if I'm guessing correctly, your husband?:)

Does your dear source have any photos of the new library configuration (you know, the area with the books?:) )

Thanks again so very much,

Karin

Hi Karin,

You're right :)

I dont know if I have any that specifically show books, but I'll look. If he has them I'll post tomorrow.

Here's another, showing a nice way to look out at the view. From what I understand, the Explorations Cafe takes up the former Oak Room, and just a small piece of the former Crows Nest.

Oh, Joanne - that looks better! At least the computer partitions don't seem to be blocking the view.. thanks for the photos. :)

Yes, I want to thank you and your source for these great pictures. It definitely looks interesting. I think I might actually like it.:) We really like the Explorations Cafe on the Noordam and spent a lot of time in there on our June cruise when I was doing my daily report.sadly I only used it one time and the other times I used the ship's computer was the lap top available in the Neptune Lounge.

WeLoveCruising,

Is the Internet Center still on the Promenade Deck or has it been changed into something else now that the Explorations Cafe has stations as well

Kathy,

The Internet center on the Promenade Deck is gone. Or, put another, it's been replaced by the Explorations Cafe up on the starboard side of the Crows Nest. I believe they've expanded more shopping into that area.

Solo, if this is your first cruise on HAL you will definitely enjoy it!

Check out my photos of the Westerdam. They're prior to the reconfiguration, but for the most part the pictures will give you an idea of what the ship is like.

Thank you so much for the pictures. Now I'm even more anxious to get on a "dam" ship. These 3 weeks or so will never end!!

Solo, I sympathize - but I have to wait eight more weeks! :(

Have a wonderful cruise - and please check in when you get back and let us know how it went.

Doesn't matter what the view is when they close the whole Crows Nest for group functions several times a week.....And I think it was the Explorer Lounge where the waiter had to go up two decks to fill a drink order. Can you say "SLOW"??

We were on the Westerdam in July. The computers don't have glare because they are not close enough to the windows. There are MANY wonderful new books to read. Some are in the photo behind the metal mesh screens near the chairs. There are many more. The chairs are very comfortable but people tend to move them as now there are not many facing forward at the front windows of the Crow's nest. Many of the old front reclining chairs have been replaced by upright chairs and coffee tables. Not so good for snoozing but they can sell you more drinks!

The internet cafe has good iced lattes at a reasonable price and don't forget a pastry comes free with that. There is still a cafe on the promenade deck which sold mainly blended real fruit drinks.

Thanks Revneal. Yes it is my first time on a HAL ship and I'm very anxious to board knowing it will be a great experience. Your pictures were terrific and will be something I'll turn to many times in the next several weeks.

I'll be pleased to post a review or comments or whatever when I get back to reality. For me that's an essential part of the cruise. Not sure if I'll invest in onboard internet time OR the casino (ok who am I trying to kid  ) so there may not be a posting from onboard.

The library books are indeed behind those gold mesh screens. The screeens cover them when the books are not available for checkout. It's so attractive you don't even notice there are books in there when they're closed. They line several walls plus those ones you see in the photos. The selection is very good. This was our favorite part of the ship when we sailed in June--both the Cafe and the Crow's Nest. I didn't realize there was a partition between them as I never saw it closed in the 10 days we were on board. Makes me wonder if it's only closed if there's some private function in the Crow's Nest (which thankfully did not happen on our cruise). DH and DS spent every evening in the lounge chairs watching the moonlight and sipping their beverage of choice. Then I woke them up when I was ready to go back to the cabins! ;)

Oh thank you for the photos...you are making me drool !

Sometimes I drool without looking at photos of HAL ships, but it so happens that I'll be on the Westerdam.. along with SoloCruiser Sandy and at least 35 other CCers.. in 3 weeks! Very excited!! Still don't know my cabin #, tho.

I hope you enjoy your cruise! I sailed on the Westerdam last year and loved it.

I'm on the Noordam in 4 weeks, and my cabin just showed on the Immigration Form this morning. Did you check yours today? Should be coming any day now, I hope.

Anyone know about average age of passengers and number of 20 somethings ?

Thanks

Fred

Not sure this is the right thread in which to pose this question. Also, you might want to check the roll call for that particular cruise.
