cruisePRN Posted October 10, 2007 #152 Share Posted October 10, 2007 Yes, it was a great table! I really enjoyed our dinners. Will you guys go on all my cruises with me? I want to go to Hawaii in the future - unfortunately my next 2 years are 'booked' time wise for big cruises. I am considering the Pride of America for 2010, just because I have never been to Hawaii before & I like the idea of having before & after time in Honolulu. Hopefully, the service will be better by then. Of course, by 2010 all sorts of things can change - there may be even a better option!:D I have another friend who went on that cruise last year. She is also a RCI loyalist. She said that if you go into it not expecting the service you get on RCI you'll have fun. Guess that's what we'll have to do! That's the attitude i went to Hawaii with so we had a great time. You sound like me with all the cruises booked, I've got 7 booked thru June 2009. Dec 1 2008 will be the annual girls Monarch cruise for anybody wanting to come along for a great little cruise. We're going to try Azamara and Crystal in the next year. As much as i love RCL I am getting to the point of wanting a more adult experience so we'll see if we like it. We stayed at the Ala Moana Hotel for two nights before the cruise and recomend it highly. The location was great and the dim sum at the ala moana shopping center was so good it was lunch and dinner. cruiserbryce Posted October 10, 2007 #153 Share Posted October 10, 2007 How much did you pay for parking at that lot? is there a lot other than the terminal lot that is right by the port? The port lot was $12 per day...
lephysteria Posted October 10, 2007 Author #154 Share Posted October 10, 2007 Right, but if he says that he parked across from the ship, I was thinking it was underneath the Vincent Thomas Bridge. I know you can park there for the Catalina Express ferries, but I wasn't sure how much it would be to park there for the weekend cruise :)
socallisa Posted October 10, 2007 #155 Share Posted October 10, 2007 I leave on Friday for my 3-day Monarch cruise! I'm SUPER excited!! I booked the ATV/winery too so I hope it's a good one. I've been to the wineries there before but I've never ridden an ATV. First time for everything!! Lisa
lephysteria Posted October 10, 2007 Author #156 Share Posted October 10, 2007 How exciting! Welcome to the Monarch fan club! I know you'll have a great cruise! Do post back when you return. I'm interested to know how you found the excursion. Tell us all about it! And tell Danney more brownies are coming! ;)
Cruisedreamer1 Posted October 10, 2007 #157 Share Posted October 10, 2007 Is the atmosphere on other RC ships similiar to the Monarch of the Seas? Is it very "party" like? Or "Adult" like? Thanks.
Sunny AZ Girl Posted October 10, 2007 #158 Share Posted October 10, 2007 Look at it like this ... if you always eat in the casual dining restaurant, your DH doesn't have to wear big boy pants :Dlmao, oh that cracked me up when I heard that! I thought of you guys last night. On the TV one of the characters went back upstairs to change into big-boy pants.... omg, I fell about the place. :D I told him about your post & he said, "You mean on NCL I don't have towear big boy pants?" OMG, I may never get him back on RCI again now that he knows that! We went out to eat tonight & he said he had to change his pants before we left. He went & took off his dirty khaki shorts & put on......clean khaki shorts!;) BTW, he says, "Hi"!:D
lephysteria Posted October 10, 2007 Author #159 Share Posted October 10, 2007 Is the atmosphere on other RC ships similiar to the Monarch of the Seas? Is it very "party" like? Or "Adult" like? Thanks. I've experienced the same atmosphere on all short cruises. That's more of a party like atmosphere with singles and girlfriends out for the weekend. The longer RC cruises are more families, but all cruises are fun. I just see more singles and Disco activities on a shorter cruise ;)

OMG he was hysterical all weekend, him not wanting to wear long pants ... I'll always remember that! ;)
Sunny AZ Girl Posted October 10, 2007 #161 Share Posted October 10, 2007 Yes, the shorter cruises all have a bit more of the "party atmosphere". However, if you time it to avoid school breaks, especially spring break, it is a lot tamer. Our 4 night in late April was quite tame - a lot of business groups, several retirement community groups & a couple of family reunions. On our 3 night there was a "bachelorette party" having a very good time. What was funny is there was a young RCI officer who seemed to be assigned to escort them around, especially at night. To be quite honest, he didn't look as if he minded the assignment at all!:D
pakmount Posted October 10, 2007 #162 Share Posted October 10, 2007 We are going on an April 08 sailing on this ship. It is a "performance cruise" for my daughters dance group. Can anyone tell me if a three night cruise is just like a 7 night cruise (on Carnival), just shorter? I know it sounds dumb, but is there bingo, shows, formal dinner, and fun daytime activities? I'm thrilled about Encinada, so we may just stay on the ship that day. Is that a good idea? Thanks for your help!
lephysteria Posted October 10, 2007 Author #163 Share Posted October 10, 2007 Yes you can expect those activities on your cruise. The 3-night itinerary is a lot of fun! We go every year just because ;)
mitchrock Posted October 10, 2007 #164 Share Posted October 10, 2007 Has anyone done the Bartending school at Ensenada? It looks like a blast. Wife and I want to do it and would love some feedback. Also. doing the doc dance. Came in yesterday!

I'm thrilled about Encinada, so we may just stay on the ship that day. Is that a good idea? Thanks for your help! I haven't been on Carnival, but I can tell you that Monarch has all of the things you mention. Formal night is the second night (Saturday), and the Captain even throws a Welcome Aboard party in between the two dinner seatings, with cocktails, hors d'ouerves and dancing to the Monarch All Stars. Daytime activities include trivia, bingo, art auction, sexy legs and bellyflop contest and other stuff I can't recall. Whether or not those are "fun" for you is a personal choice, of course! As for Ensenada, if you haven't been, I'd say take one of the ship's tours just to get a feel for the place. We only get off the ship for a massage & lunch, having been there a dozen times. But I'm a firm believer than one should experience everything at least once. I haven't heard of the bartender school, either. It does sound like a fun way to spend a day, though! Rare pierces Posted October 10, 2007 #169 Share Posted October 10, 2007 Were headed back to the Monarch in December... This is one of my favorite views from her: I think the consensus is correct...nice ship, but tired. Great crew! Dave

pakmount Posted October 11, 2007 #171 Share Posted October 11, 2007 Since I am not the one who has arranged our trip. Can someone tell me if it is best to fly into LAX or is Long Beach ok? We want to take a shuttle service to the cruise if that is available. I can't seem to get any information, and we have to book our own airfare and transfers. So if any of you have any great ideas for a shuttle service, and which airport is best, I would really appreciate it!:D
MBprincess Posted October 11, 2007 #172 Share Posted October 11, 2007 Long Beach or LAX is about the same. Take the one that gets you the better air fare. Long Beach is a smaller airport so easier to in and out of. LAX is bigger with everything.
critterchick Posted October 11, 2007 #173 Share Posted October 11, 2007 If the fares are comparable and you can get a schedule you like, Long Beach wins hands down IMHO (I'm flying to NY tomorrow from there, in fact). LGB is 14 miles from the port while LAX is 19. But the traffic pattern is usually far worse coming from LAX, especially at rush hour (if there's an accident on the 405 to/from LGB, all bets are off, but you can't predict that). If you're going straight to the port or to a downtown Long Beach hotel, the cabs at LGB are fixed rate, not metered - the prices are posted at the taxi stand. From LAX I think everything is on the meter except for doing to downtown LA. Prime Time and Super Shuttle are the two major van services. I would rather spend a few extra bucks on a town car service (Sky Limo at 800-359-1800 is my choice), because I loathe circling the airport while the driver tries to fill the van and having to wait while other people get dropped off before me. But if you're a large group you can book a van for yourselves and have door to door service.
cruisePRN Posted October 11, 2007 #174 Share Posted October 11, 2007 I agree Long Beach is easier
pakmount Posted October 12, 2007 #175 Share Posted October 12, 2007 Thanks for the great information! I knew I could count on "friends" from this site. Usually Long Beach is cheaper from Utah, and that airport serves a great breakfast in their restaurant! haha Thanks again!
