Rare lazydayz Posted May 1, 2009 #1476 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Lovely Star, Every other RCI ship I have been on had safes in the room (Majesty, Adventure and Voyager) as did the Carnival ships. So I called and asked where I would find the safe. That is when I learned no safes below Deck 9. Linda
onevacationlover Posted May 1, 2009 #1477 Share Posted May 1, 2009 My wife agrees with your comment about the safes. The young purser she dealt with when getting stuff to wear for formal night wanted her to open it at the desk. She insisted that she have privacy and he escorted her to the office. For all those who miss Monarch from being in LA let me say that she is doing well here in Florida and those crew members that came with her are excellent. Captain Karen is unbelievably great! She did tell us that Monarch does not have a "For Sale" sign on it! The meals are of the best quality that we have had on a ship from PC in some time. :D thanks so much for posting..it's great to hear the nice things to expect when I cruise in 21 days..:D
PH8 Posted May 2, 2009 #1478 Share Posted May 2, 2009 Are there any specialty restaurants on the Monarch? If so what is the cover and can someone post a menu? Actually, there is one...............Jade is Asian restaurant on deck 12...........serves sushi, sometimes tempura too, and now they have a thing called Black rock cooking.......its a heated stone and they bring out your food and you cook it........seafood, steak,chicken........it is really good..... Prices range from $3 to about $15.......depending on what you want.... as far as no safes, that class of ship doesnt have them for decks 2-8.......what I do is take my valuables and and lock them in my suitcase and stick it under the bed............ Just got off a b2b on the MN and had a super time.......met the new captain(Kjell Nordmo) and his lovely wife,Jen...........

Contemplating booking the b2b on the Monarch.....Right now, we are booked for just the four night but really thinking about booking the 3 day right after. Did you pre-book the b2b? Did you stay in the same room or move? Was it worth it even though it was the same ports of call. 4 nights just seems way too short for me. Didnt pre book it.......well,not at the same time..... First,I had the 4 nighter booked with my friend........booked that in March........then a couple of weeks ago,our husbands decided they would like to go too.....but they could only get away for the 3 nighter....... So, anyway, no we didnt have the same cabin.............went from deck 5 to deck 8.........and the steward moved it all for us.....didnt even have to take our clothes off the hangers.......... same ports plus a sea day on the 4 nighter.................we didnt even get off the ship at CocoCay(been there alot),,,,,,,,enjoyed the quiet ship.. Jsme Posted May 4, 2009 #1490 Share Posted May 4, 2009 what are the ages for the teen/ kids clubs? Will my 12 &14 yr olds have enough to do? 12-14 are in the same teen group. My kids at that age loved it and had no problems with entertainment. We were on the FOS though. I am taking my DD, now 16, on this ship right before school starts. I hope she will entertain me some, otherwise, I am the one who will be bored.

noche_caliente Posted May 6, 2009 #1492 Share Posted May 6, 2009 Hi everyone - we are contemplating booking for the 8/3 sailing and found that room 3500 is available - it's a room we'd like to have due to the location being the same as our honeymoon cruse- we'd have our 4 year old son with us - does anyone have a pic of that room, or a similar room with the pullman down? Thanks!

Why the captain died onbaord the ship and the office covered up the drinking problem...... What explosion? Are you talking about the leak of methane gas that killed 3 crewmembers in 2005? Why would the FBI be involved in an industrial accident - the Coast Guard and CDC were all over the place and cleared the ship for boarding (we were on her). As for the office "covering up" the late Captain's alleged drinking problem, what is your proof that he (1) had one and (2) that it was covered up? Sheesh. What kind of mattress' does Monarch have? Is it the temperpedic like on Freedom...Are the linens nice on the beds? I believe that all RCI ships have the same bedding. Monarch upgraded hers in 2007, as I recall. Jsme Posted May 11, 2009 #1500 Share Posted May 11, 2009 So far for the My Time Dining I have read you go to the diningroom at a certain time on embarkment date to sign up for MTD on the Monarch. Does anyone know if or when this may change and the option is available online? I just checked and it is not available yet to do on-line. I have also read that you have to pick your dining time on MTD a day before. Is this true? I was hoping it was more flexible.
