As I am planning I have a few questions if someone could:

1) is the hairdryer in the JS in the bathroom or in the room? Trying to decide if I need to bring one (so I don't tie up the bathroom if it is in there)

2) is there any benefit to ordering from the wine list listed in the RCI site vs waiting til we get on board to get a bottle (or so) for the room or DR?

3) What time is Main Dining for the 4 nighter?

Personally, I am conflicted on whether to order a package or not. With a 4-night cruise, I really don't need 5 bottles. DH and I can comfortably split a bottle (two large glasses each) for dinner, but any more than that is really outside of our limits... Besides, if I want more to drink, I want something frozen with an umbrella in it!

Two questions, really. Where is the best way to enjoy Sail Away on the Monarch? :confused: I am a first-time cruiser, and I understand that this is important.

Second, I seem to be nominated as the offical unofficial Meet & Greet organizer (it's unofficial, since it's a 4-nighter), being as I seem to be the most active poster on my roll-call board. So I need some experienced Monarch advice: When and where would be a good place for a mini M&G? Suggestions so far range from Viking Crown Lounge to Bolero's, and before muster and after. I have no idea, since I have never been on this ship (or any other cruise ship, for that matter). Thoughts? Experiences? Where are the crowds, rather, where are they NOT (which is where I'd rather be)? What lounges are serving drinks, and when do they start serving? What's the view like from these places? How long does it take to get from one place to another (like from your muster station to your cabin to stash a life preserver to the M&G location)? :rolleyes:

FWIW, our roll call has about 25 passengers accounted for, but I highly doubt there will be that many who want to actually meet.

From the muster drill, there is plenty of time to drop off your lifevests if you are on the 6th deck on up. We sat in the windjammer and there was no one else there. We enjoyed looking outward. We sat at the glass. We met our group at the aft bar and wore mardi gras beads. It worked out pretty well. Enjoy!

We have a group of 6....I had asked my father for his 75th bday to go. He wasn't sure since we just lost my mom a couple of months ago. I decided I still wanted to go so I asked 4 of my cousins. Once my father realized we had booked he decieded to join us!!! This is my 5rc cruise but most had never been on a cruise. Really looking forward to it and hoping for great weather! The ILLINI Group

On board, they have a smaller package available which we purchase for 3 nighters. It is not advertised anywhere.

I have scanned most of this thread.. sailed on the Monarch back in 2000 out of san juan for my very first cruise.. decided to book this one so i can be platinum for my 10 day repo in october... when is the formal nite on the 3 day ?? Never booked a cruise 6 weeks out ..we usually book over a year out .............

Formal night is always on the 2nd evening on the Monarch.

Thanx .. it just seemed like a strange nite because we are docked in nassau so late.. but i guess on a cruise this short there isnt much choice.. I can't wait to see her again .. it was there that this crazy addiction started ... i remember thinking how big the ship was ...

You can order ice cream in the diningroom in the evenings and sometimes for lunch.

 

Serrentos is upstairs in the Windjammer deck 12 in front of Jade Sushi

 

Jade/Sushi (not to be confused with Jade Sushi Restaruant) is offer in the evening in the Windjammer on deck 11 & deck 12 (according to RCI deck plans)

 

Jade Sushi is offered by menu with a fee per what you order (same as restaruants) and it is located upstairs in the Windjammer

 

There is a "secret" aft balcony with about 8-9 lounges

Lobster Bisque is horrible

 

Just back from the Monarch. Ice cream was served every day (except the first day) at 3:30pm in the back part of the Windjammer.

 

It's on Deck 8. If you are on Deck 9 or 10 you can just take the aft stairs down. From Deck 7 you can take the aft stairs up. I don't recall any access from Deck 8 itself, except for 'crew only' doors.

 

We found the "secret" deck 8 balcony. Never found a way to get there from deck 8, but easy to get to from deck 9 - go through the fitness center, and out the doors to the deck and down the stairs, or up from deck 7.

 

Ice cream is available in the dining room at dinner (DH ordered it almost every night). We never went to "afternoon tea" in the Windjammer (3:30pm), but there were rumors of ice cream there. Ice cream was served at the Midnight buffet (which was night 3 of our 4-night).

 

8562 is an "obstructed" view room, but I would stay there again in a heartbeat. We could see between (and under) the lifeboats, and the location was unbeatable (short walk to everything).

 

The way forward part of Windjammer (deck 11) buffet serves Asian and Indian fare at lunch (were never there for dinner), along with many of the same things as the regular part of Windjammer. There is often seats available there, when the regular buffet area is crowded. There is additional seating upstairs (deck 12) by Sorrento's as well.

 

Formal night was night 2 of our 4-night cruise.

 

Monarch of the Seas is the only cruise ship in the industry with a female captain, the fabulous Captain Karin.

I have never heard of anything free given for the birthday person besides a song. They might be willing to bring out a piece of cake for your BF.

 

Last year DH was given a piece of chocolate cake and they sang to him but no full cake. I could have bought one but I have yet to have a good cake on a cruise. We have bought them before when we found a member at our table is having a birthday though.

In addition to cake & a song, our son who was turning 18 had a hat put on his head made out of a dinner napkin. We loved it ..... he didn't! :D

Good question...and the answer is yes and no. There is sushi and it is offered at 2 places. At the front of the Buffet they offer it and then they also have a pay restaruant where you can order sushi.
