How much extra would you be willing to Pay...

$0. If kids are bothering me, I go somewhere else on the ship. Same with smoking and that bothers me a heck of a lot more than kids. I pay extra to drink, Pay extra not to????? What sense does that make? Watching the drunks can be a great form of entertainment.

My wife and I go to Hawaii as our spot without the kids. I enjoy cruising with them.

After thinking about it a bit, I suppose I'm not willing to pay a premium to exclude anything.

DW and I like to have cocktails. I'm use to seeing bratty kids and enjoy yelling at them about their poor behavior when their parents won't. I won't let my kids associate with kids that are brats. And luckily, they don't want to. While I don't like smoking, cruises are geared toward the over 21 croud (and the 25 and older baby-sitting croud), and smoking has always been a part of this over 21 behavior. Guess I'm stuck. Unless I have a good cigar! :D

Yet another version of the MasterCard commercial ....

Smoke-free cruise - $100 (the amount I would save on my asthma meds not being around smokers)

Alcohol-free cruise - $500 (the amount I would save not having to see a shrink after viewing that obnoxious over-weight drunk drop his pants..... EEEWWWWWWW!!!!)

Kid-free cruise - $0 (my kids will always cruise with me as long as they love it as much as I do)

A week with NO smoke and NO obnoxious drunks - Priceless!

I would rather have the kids on board instead of having a bunch of rude, obnoxious drunk adults who think everything they say and do is hilarious. As for the smoking, the only place I've ever really noticed it is in the casino and I guess that's to be expected. I wouldn't want to pay extra to have alcohol because then you'd just end up with more rude, obnoxious adults.

And not to bring up a nasty topic AGAIN, but I still don't understand why people who don't like cruising with kids continue to patronize a family oriented cruise line.

How much extra would you be willing to Pay...

For a smoke free, alchohol free, child free cruise?

Or any combination above. For example:

Child Free?

Alchohol free?

smoke free and Alchohol free?

WHich combination would you like to see?

Since I've had no problem with any of the listed items on any of my four cruises, there's no reason in the world I'd care to pay extra $$ to deprive myself of the refreshing company of youngsters on a cruise! I know some of them get a little out of hand now and again, but a cool head and a smile will usually bring them around. If not, a chat with their folks will. Don't smoke anymore (loved every cigarette I ever had tho) but have never really found smoking to be a problem onboard any of the ships I've been on. If someone lights up close enough that it may bother me, that's my problem not theirs, and I choose to quietly move to another spot. Those ships are big and there are lots of places to move to! As far as the drinking is concerned, I like to have a little hair of the dog myself occasionally, but don't understand this obsession with patrons on Carnival ships being "drunken" hordes. Out of the 2-3 thousand people aboard the various ships I've been on, I don't believe I've ever seen more than six or eight people that I would deem to have been falling down drunk. Pretty good for that big a crowd! Just my two cents.

I took my two children with me - and unless they were with me they were in Camp Carnival - never ran around the ship unsupervised - I continuosly saw several children (under the age of 8) running around by themselves -now they did not bother me but I was worried about their safety. I guess their parents thought the walkie talkies they were carrying around kept them safe???? Anyway, the last day while we were waiting to get off the ship -

I saw the little boy with his parents - his mom was sitting with her head barried in her arms - she looked a little "under the weather" - I had seen him the night before by himself around 11PM. I don't get this.

I was also pleasantly surprised with the lack of smoke - never bothered me other than the casino - and that is to be expected!

alcohol - no drunks on our cruise

I wouldn't pay extra for a kid free cruise. I choose to cruise when it is actually cheaper and I haven't seen too much of a problem with kids yet.

Smoke free - did it last year. LOVE the Paradise, very disappointed she is moving and becoming a smoke-full ship. I didn't pay extra for it, and won't.

Alcohol free - are you CRAZY!!! Why?

Now for an all drink inclusive, I would be willing to pay about $200-$300 more.

I would love a smoke free ship-I understand though there was not enough in it moneywise for Carnival-what I would like to see though a few cruises a year on all the the ships that are smoke free-I would be willing to pay an extra $100 a person for that. Now the reason I would like a smoke free ship is because I love the paino bar and now that Carnival does the smoking and nonsmoking lounges the piano bar is always THICK with smoke and I understand why since the smokers are limited to the lounges they use. Smokers never bothered me before that policy. Another thing I can never understand is why often the lido bathrooms are THICK with smoke. Smoking is allowed on the Lido so why smoke while you pee? It is horrible to go in a small enclosed area after a smoker-not just breathing but I can hardly see because of all the smoke.

I like a drink or two for relaxing-I am not in the habit of getting intoxicated-just not worth the hangover the next day for all that "fun". So I vote keep the alcohol.

Children are not a problem as long as rules are enforced. I do feel if parents don't watch their kids then a ships's officer should be able to stop that child from playing in the elevator, hot tubs etc. If it is a continued problem then maybe that family should be put off at the nearest port. Maybe it hasn't been done because of unruly children but that has been done for other reasons like unruly drunks- so why not? I am sure cruiselines could cover their themselves from sue happy people by stating that in their policy with the little contract thing you get.

You're kidding right? I like kids and if I want to get away from them I can. Smoke free?? ditto Alcohol please, I don't drink often usually when out for dinner or on a cruise. Why pay extra for these things when you can avoid to some degree two of them and the third why would you want to????

Yes, "I" am kidding. But if I were a betting man, I would bet that this is why Carnival has enacted the 25 & over Guardian policy in the cabins.

Does anyone know if Carnival has an "Ideas and Action" suggestion box? :D

There are many adults that don't have to be drunk to be obnoxious. I can ignore drunks, its the sober obnoxious ones I can't take.

Yes I like kids and never have a problem with WELL BEHAVED kids. I blame the parents yes occasionially there is a kid with ADD but by far the misbehaving kids are ones that are NEGLECTED by their parents.

Actually this has not really been a problem for me on cruises. In 8 cruises I have only had a couple of bad experiences and those seemed to me to be BAD parenting. That is why I say in extreme situations the FAMILY should be put off ship. Ofcourse they would get WARNINGS.

My daughter is 20 years old now but when she was small we never allowed her to be disruptive. Hey we actually left movies halfway through because she was misbehaving and if she acted up at a restuarant we would ask for carry out boxes, pay and leave. We never rewarded her for bad behavior. Infact we would do something like restrict her TV viewing or something and when she behaved she would be rewarded with a treat-for example in a restuarant she would get that ice cream sundae if she behaved well. Believe me this works.

Now just the other day I was in a Dollar General and this 5 year old girl wanted this $5 doll. the father told her no that he had bought her a doll a couple of days before. Well she threw this tantrum big time. At first he ignored her but later he caved in and bought the doll. WRONG THING TO DO and I suspect he has done that before. I can see his thinking-it was worth the pitiful $5 for peace-he better watch out though by the time she is a teenager it will be much more then $5 for him to keep peace.

If I had been him I would have let her have her fit-left as soon as possible and when we got home she would have been put on restriction-no TV no computer or if we had planned to go to the park or something no park-plus I would have taken away a couple of her valued toys for a couple of weeks. I guarantee that girl's attitude would improve within about 6 weeks or so as long as Dad stuck to his guns instead of taking the easy way out.

I've carried my children out like a book from many a store when they were very young... at my side, hanging down, head and arms sticking out forward flailing, and legs sticking out back and kicking.

Parenting rule #1: never reward a tantrum in any form.

I have seen often parents trying to negotiate with 3-6 year olds in Toys R Us. My guess is they didn't want to call too much attention to themselves by carrying this child out like a book. But they got plenty of attention as everyone watches them chasing and trying to negotiate for a 15 minute stretch.

The end result was always the same: They either caved, or they ended up carrying out a screaming child like a book. :)

I wasn't saying that at all-the point I was TRYING to make is normally with a FEW exceptions I have no PROBLEM with children-when there is a problem-it can be either traced to bad parenting or sometimes the child is SIMPLY sick and not feeling well-to me that is BAD PARENTING also-no need to have a sick child out in a restaurant or store.

I just get tired of people who knock the kids when they should be knocking the parents. I have been on 8 cruises. I can count maybe 3 times ( 3 isolated incidents-not the WHOLE cruise) where I had a negative experience with children. These were all small children and it was the parent's fault not the child who did not know any better.

I wouldn't pay extra either. Kids may be bothersome on some of the short weekender-type cruises, but were not on the 12-day Mediterranean cruise we took. Smokers don't light up in the dining room or hallways, so they don't bother us. We enjoy a drink with dinner sometimes but we haven't been in the bars so no problem there either.
