sign and sail cards

Can someone help me out, I thought I had an answer to this, but when questioned by a friend today, I started to doubt myself.

Does EVERYONE get a sign and sail card? Even kids? Do they put a $300 hold on the Credit card for EACH person? So, does that mean my teens and my12 year old can run around the ship and spend $300 on whatever they want? I'm sure this isn't true...... can someone tell me how this works with families?

Yes, everyone gets one. It is also your key to the room on most ships. You can have the kids set up without the $$$ and that they can't charge, blocked. Or you can sit them down and say, you can spend XXX amount of dollars a day and check up on them daily:)

FYI from the Carnival web site; 5-8 day cruises: $200 deposit pp

Sail & Sign is Carnival's cashless on board credit program which allows guests to charge purchases directly to a personal account for convenience throughout the cruise.

Registration will take place on sailing day at embarkation or on board at the Information Desk. The completed application form (included in the cruise documents) must be submitted along with a 1) credit card, 2) U.S. currency, or 3) traveler's checks.

Personalized Sail & Sign cards will be provided to all guests on a booking (including minors) and are valid for use immediately upon boarding the ship.

The Information Desk can provide guests with a balance update at any time throughout the cruise.

All charges will automatically be billed to the guest's credit card at the end of the voyage. On the final morning of the cruise, a statement detailing all purchases made with the Sail & Sign card will be delivered to the guest's stateroom. The total amount will be applied to the credit card presented during registration. For those guests who put down a cash deposit, if there is an overpayment at the end of the cruise, the guest will receive the overpayment in the form of a check attached to their detailed statement on the final morning of the cruise.

Any inqiries regarding a Sail & Sign Account made after the cruise, need to be referred to the Guest Relations Department (71551) for researching.

When I read this, it sounds like you do not have a choice, everyone must have one, and each person must make a deposit.....

I'm with Pineview on this.

We had our kid's S&S card blocked. This way they still had a key to the cabin with NO charging capabilities.

Understand though that the kid's $10 per person per day gratuities will be put on your and DH's S&S cards.

  • 3 weeks later...

Can anyone tell me... if I book our shore excursions (through Carnival) some time within the next couple of weeks, will the cost of the excursions be added to my S&S card, or do I have to pay for them at the time of booking? ... We are on the Victory on Dec. 2nd, but I was thinking of booking shore excursions asap.

...only 38 days!:D

If you book them beforehand, you pay for them beforehand. Only things you charge on board will be put on your S & S card when you are on board.

While some excursions book up quickly, we have never booked an excursion beforehand. Too many factors can change and I wouldn't want to be locked into a shore excursion, get on board and find out they now won't let me cancel it.

Thanks, Joanne.:)

Another question... (This is our first cruise... I'm trying to be as prepared ahead of time as possible) on the list of excursions, a lot of them tell you that there is limited seating available for that particular excursion. Has anyone ever had trouble getting into the scuba diving, or the ray runner stingray thing, or the canopy tour? (Those are things that we're considering doing, yet all of them are limited.) Just wondered if anyone is able to give me some advice on wether or not I need to worry about booking ahead of time? I am booking for 4 people, and am not sure how easy or difficult it is to be able to get into the excursion that you really want to do.
