Does anyone know if we need to sort out our own visas for Australia (we are flying out the day the cruise ends) We have had two different answers from X one said yes and one said no. One concern is that you may be in Australia more than 72 hours if you enter via Melbourne, Newcastle, then Sydney. http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/transit/771/index.htm Good luck. Don't forget to check out the Austalia/NZ Ports of Call board for good information as well. Leela Posted October 7, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 7, 2007 If you are currently a citizen of a certain list of countries, including the US, Canada, and UK, you can apply for, pay for, and get confirmed an "ETA" (Electronic Travel Authority) which is basically an electronic visa for Australia. The web site says it will process the approval within 30 seconds. This must be done *before* you arrive in Australia. See http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/index.html for more information. DonMaryCar Posted October 7, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2007 Not sure if all cruise lines do it the same, we did back to backs on Princess in January/Feb of this year and when they billed us for each segment they charged us $40 (the two of us) which was for the electronic visa. Since we didn't need it for both segments since it was good for 3 months they refunded us the $40 for the second segment. They told us it was the cruise lines responsibility to make sure everyone had it so they applied for it for everyone. Like I said not sure how Celebrity does it but it is worth double checking with them. Have a great cruise, we loved every minute of it. Any other cruisers know the answer? Yes, I am certain that you will need to get your visa for Australia - you will not be allowed in if you do not have one. Very easy to apply for on the website - and cost is A$20 which is about £8. It is called an ETA http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/ I would be concerned about the 72hr exception - Aus is very strict when it comes to border controls! Wouldn't it be fun if we were on another cruise together? The Baltic was one of the best cruises we have had and part of that was due to our merry group. Rare boards Posted October 9, 2007 #9 Share Posted October 9, 2007 You will need the "ETA" as was stated in you are a citizen of the USA or Canada and some others. In our case (Cdn) our TA made all the arrangements for us. If there was a cost we don't know, she never stated that to us. The information will then be on file and you will never be asked for anything special like a visa. I was worry before the trip but it was all for not.
