Monte Carlo Hotels

Hello All,

Mrs. Jack and I will be staying on in Monte Carlo post cruise and would like suggestions in regard to hotels in the city. Our TA suggested the Hermitage, but me thinks their $1200 per diem rate is a bit much for a standard room. A $300-$400 rate would be more to my liking since I've promised my granddaughter a medical school education;) .

I can look around as I will be there in 2 weeks. Although staying post cruise in Nice for 3 nights at Le Grimaldi. You are an EXCELLENT Granddad!

We have always stayed at the Hermitage--its been a few years but the room rates were more in the $600 range--things have changed!!! It's a great place to stay, and the next time we go there we will "suck it up" and do it again.We did get a better rate booking thru "Leading Hotels of the World"--I believe there U. S. number was 1-800-745-8883--Might help! It beats the Holiday Inn in Butler, Pa. Don

should you decide to do the Hermitage...truly old elegance...ask for a harbor veiw..that is such a beautiful...famous sight. We always have small binoculars with us to "spy" on the yachts in harbor. Breakfast is served outside..and is wonderful. We have stayed there many times over the years and never tire of it. Lola [let the kids get a student loan...just kidding]

I just stayed at the Hermitage for the Monaco Yacht Show (read very high demand) and paid nowhere near that amount. I also found that Leading Hotels of the World was the most expensive way to go. Check some other sources. The hotel is in a great location and the rooms and service are wonderful.

 

BTW, I would encourage anyone staying in Monaco to check out the Monaco Tourist Board at http://www.visitmonaco.com and consider purchasing its Le Club card. The benefits (helicopter transfer, free entry into the Casino, etc.) are outstanding.

I have heard what College fees cost in the USA....so maybe a Backpackers Inn might be the go?? I'm sure there is a reasonable one there somewhere. ;)

My thoughts immediately turned to a tent, but Mrs. Jack's idea of "roughing it" is a Ritz Carlton without Rack of Lamb on the room service menu:D . Jack

Tell Mrs Jack she should come camping with us.......I cook rack of lamb in the bush! A whole leg of lamb is easier, in the cast iron camp oven over an open fire, the smell ~~~:) always carry the mint jelly of course.

You will be glad you did--the hotel is Monte Carlo!! Don

Be aware that during Grand Prix week It is very difficult getting around the town as a lot of the streets are closed off, it is Very Very noisy and not easy to get restaurant bookings.If not a fan it is usually better to stay outside Monte Carlo.

I would suggest the Bar Americain in the Hotel de Paris as the most appropriate (and refined) place to continue your quest. It is just a very short walk from the Hermitage...and I do not believe you will have to dodge any Formula 1 cars along the way.
