coulbysailor Posted October 13, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2007 I am looking forward to Caribbean cruise on the Emerald Princess in November - I have just pre-registered my credit card and asked if I could opt to pay the bill at the end in dollars rather than stirling ( my credit card provider doesn't make a charge and with the rate being so good I'll get more for my money) and was dismayed to be told I would be charged 3% ! can anyone comment or are we just being ripped off?
cruisinbuddy Posted October 13, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 13, 2007 Yes feel free to pay in dollars. I always submit my cc and take $1000.00 in tcs. At the end of the cruise I take the leftover tcs and apply them to my account.
chrysalis Posted October 13, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 13, 2007 they do that to Canadian's too....the best way to avoid that is to take some traveller's checks/cheques with you in US $s and pay off your account that way....

britsbest Posted October 13, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 13, 2007 Most likely mistaken we never paid a surcharge to pay in $US
vickie_bernie Posted October 13, 2007 #7 Share Posted October 13, 2007 Most likely mistaken we never paid a surcharge to pay in $US this only happens to non us -- make sure you tick off the box to not do the conversion to your at final payment. It is on your boarding pass when you board and they take the imprint of your cc.
laktex Posted October 13, 2007 #8 Share Posted October 13, 2007 As has been said - register the fact that you wish to be charged in US dollars when you check in. If you are thinking to use a debit card to avoid the 3% conversion charge, then simply go to the pursers desk and use that to settle your account. I did this the penultimate evening and left the last days charges to my credit card. It did take quite a while to use the debit card as they have to get approval.
