Insurance - RCCL or other?

Recommended Posts

Already know we want to get insurance. What is your advice as far as which insurance to purchase? Is it better to go with RC's or to go with an independent source?

We pretty much just want the standard, basic coverage. We'll be driving to port...are healthy...no unusual circumstances such as sick relatives, etc. Our health insurance does cover us out of the country, so don't need anything above and beyond the standard medical options. Mostly just want it in case something unexpected would happen.

Advice???

Thanks!

Lynnette

because we want $$$ back if we are forced to cancel and not a future credit.

Double check you own med insurance, does it cover emergency evac? Most do NOT. This is the big hit, sometimes in the area of $25,000.

We have had to cancel in the past, will not cruise without it.

I now use insuremytrip.com to find policies that waive pre-existing conditions when you buy the trip insurance after your last payment. Most policies only waive pre-existing conditions if you buy the policy right after making your deposit. If you buy one of those policies and then cancel before making your last payment and get your cruise deposit back, you do not get a refund of the insurance cost.

Hi patrickmoran,

That's true when you're beyond the free look period. However, with the good companies, you can change the travel dates to apply the insurance to another trip so you don't lose the money you paid for the insurance.
