Fake Jewelry instead of real

Interesting thought. I would wonder if it could be the other way too. If they see only expensive jewelry they might think you don't know anything about the good stuff and will be an easy mark. Or that you aren't worth bartering with because you "obviously" ;) don't buy good jewelry.

On the other hand, if you have on more expensive jewelry they would know that you could be a serious buyer if they made it worth your while.

Who knows - I am sure they know all the angles in any case. :D :D :D

Interesting theories...probably could go either way...

I have a question about real experiences people have had with cabin safes. Who knows of people that have actually been robbed? Not because they left jewelry or money in their cabin, but actually had their safe opened while they were gone? Wouldn't it be obvious that it was the cabin steward or butler? And these people can't escape because they work on the ship. I have left jewelry and money in my cabin safe, but am now wondering if I am being foolish. Would appreciate hearing from those who know.

Just found another thread discussing this topic, and the concensus is that the safes are safe!

I will take real stuff on our trips if I considerate safe. A seven day Caribbean cruise is OK - but I only take what I can wear - no need for matching to my outfits. If we travel to less 'affluent' areas I wear very little jewelry. I do not want to be a target.

My in-laws were pistol whipped and robbed. My FIL had a fake Rolex - I think they were targeted because of their age and jewelry.

That has been my experience as well.

It does remind me of a very funny thread that the old timers here will remember. It was posted by a man who claimed that his cabin was broken into while he and wife slept and some large sum of money was stolen from his wallet. It was too funny. We all thought he had gone down to the casino after DW went to sleep and lost the money. Now he had to answer to his wife for the money being gone and came up with this "story".

Anyway, in true CC form, the thread quickly evolved to everyone giving their idea of how this "theft" could have taken place. I think the winning contribution (by popular vote) was that the couple left their balcony door open and that the thief bungied onto the balcony and then crept into the cabin, got the money out of the wallet, and then bungied back out with his ill gotten booty. It was never decided whether the bungie jumper was male or female/guest or staff....... ;)

Wow, I remember that thread. Some of the theories could have been turned into movies.
