St Vincent on New Years Day

Arriving on Ocean Village 2 and not sure whether local tours will be running.

Any advice on planning day (assuming not an early start!) welcome.

Dock 8am depart 6pm

I don't mean to pour cold water on your day but...

St.Vincent is not the most tourist-savvy, tourism-oriented island,

and with all those hangovers

after the New Years Eve celebrations the night before..

I wouldn't expect a whole lot!

For your sake I hope I'm wrong, but I live in these islands

and traditionally New Years Day is for one thing: recovering!

Mind you, you might get lucky around noon

with a taxi driver who hasn't done the bomb,

and you may get a nice tour of this lush and mountainous island

that I once considered a second home.

Thanks aplmac ....yes I think realism should prevail here!

There is something quite enticing about being on a beach on new years day. Could you advise if there is a beach close to port-short taxi ride for example..that may be worth visiting?

If not ...rather than staying on ship all day...any othger suggestions where we could wander round early afternoon?

Thank you again!

Bear in mind that most Vincentian beaches are black sand, of volcanic origin

and thus uncomfortably hot when the sun starts to get at them!

However, there are a few beaches in the South

where white coralline sands have mixed with the volcanic stuff

to render tolerable beaches.

Indian Bay and Villa are two such(adjoining) beaches

so you'd want to head in that direction, not far away,

just a bit beyond their near-City airport.

Scenic Young Island is right offshore those two beaches I mentioned,

so don't forget your camera!

Thanks again Aplmac

Just a thought but .......

If we were able to get a taxi to

Indian Bay and Villa around noon on New years day (if !) do you think we may struggle to get back to the ship again!??!

Sorry no concept of how far they are from port..

Cheers again

About two twisty-turny miles away from Kingstown and the Port.

I should think,though..

that by afternoon there should be a few taxis about,

especially with a cruise ship in town, that day.

Indian Bay and Villa is THE touristy area on St.Vincent

and I'm sure someone will call you a cab, if necessary.

It's not that bad.

There's a lil dock at Villa

that handles the Young Island ferry to/fro the hotel on that offshore island,

and there are usually taxis lurking around there.

That could be your most reliable bet, I reckon.

Thanks again

Very much doubt you'd need to walk back to the ship.

By then surely someone will be around to take you back.

Film Set is in Wallilabou, which is aways down the Leeward Coast as they call it.

That in itself is a drive along more twisty-turny roads

(St.Vincent is where I learned to really drive!)

If you have time, by all means do it...if you can find a cab, early on in the day,

but it's in completely the opposite direction to where Indian Bay and Villa are located.

Google Images a map of St.Vincent, and see where everything is!

Wallilabou is about halfway along the west coast.

I.Bay and Villa are at the SW tip, nr. Young Island

  • 1 month later...

I just saw this, and hope this info helps.

We went to the Pirates of Carib set on Wallibou bay on a snorkel/dive boat called Indigo Dive. (Google them) They were terrific - we stopped at three locations, two for snorkel or dive, the third at the Pirates area - we got to walk around the sets, and then ate lunch in a wonderful restaurant in the building with the arches (you can see it in the first film in the distance when Johnny Depp is on the pier.)

they were a great company.
