deadbug Posted September 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2004 Last time we went to Chitzen Itza, this time we want awesome snorkeling. We will do it on our own. Any reccomendations? Eden Rock is just a few minutes from the pier, is it great? How about chesseburger reef, or cemetary reef? Don't see the need to pay for a boat when most of the good spots seem to be reachable from the beach. Thanks for any suggestions...
sea_u_onboard Posted September 2, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2004 These sound like places in Grand Cayman not Cozumel
cruise pup Posted September 2, 2004 #3 Share Posted September 2, 2004 This is definately Grand Cayman. When you arrive at the tender pier you want to turn right and walk along the water for a few blocks and you'll see the Hard Rock Cafe. On the water side is an area with some picnic tables a place to rent snorkel gear and some steps leading right into the water. You will think you're right inside a fish tank. This is better than Eden Rock because you don't have to swim out whereas Eden Rock is a bit of distance off shore. They are very nice at the Eden Rock shop and they'll let you know what are the other good reefs and wrecks to snorkel in the area. Cheeseburger Reef, by the way is in the opposite direction when you're at the tender pier, i.e. to the left. There is also a wreck to snorkel at in the same vicinity. In Cozumel, you'd need to take a taxi to the good snorkeling, like Dzul-Ha and Chankanaab. You can walk to the Hotel La Ceiba a little north of the cruisehip dock. You can snorkel from there. Cotton Posted September 2, 2004 #4 Share Posted September 2, 2004 Since I did my very first snorkeling last September while at Chankanaab Park, Cozumel, I thought it was wonderful. Underwater statues, tons of beautiful fish and coral reef - but I have nothing to compare it to.
