emilyh Posted October 24, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2007 I am supposed to leave with a group on the Ecstasy tomorrow. I just received a recorded message that the ship is late in arriving at port because of bad weather in returning to Galveston. We cannot board until 10! $100 credit was given and the scheduled stop in Cozumel will not happen but we will go to Progresso. I took the same trip last year and we didn't make it to Cozumel because of the propulsion system. They gave us $50.00 last year but $100 doesn't seem like much considering we can't even get on the ship until 10 - no dinner, etc.

I think $100 credit is actually pretty good. The ships have NO control over the weather and the captain is always going to do his best to keep the ship out of rough weather whenever possible. I know you are disappointed, but make the best of it and just remember you will still be on a cruise!! Enjoy your $100 credit AND your cruise! Things could be worse-you could have received a message saying the cruise was cancelled!!
yst347 Posted October 24, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2007 I hope you have a great time inspite of the itinerary change. What were you planning to do in Cozumel? We have visited Cozumel and Progreso several times, perhaps we could suggest a similar substitute. :o
MattieandPearl Posted October 24, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 24, 2007 We are scheduled on the same bogus trip. I was on the boat last year and it went to Progresso...we got 50.00 on our Sign and SAle card. Now they are offering 100.00 only (for lunch and dinner)..Carinval needs to cough up another 50.00 since we won't be going to Cozemel...but not on the Sign and SAle card..on our charge cards. We now get only 3 nights of fun.
firefly333 Posted October 24, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 24, 2007 Leaving at 10 instead of 5 pm?? $100, heck I hope they do that to me, but then I have a cheap cabin booked, so $100 would be great. I guess it depends on what you have booked and all. There is a clause that says within 24 hours after notice is give of a port change you can cancel...I have the part saved somewhere from when there was that hurricane in Mexico, but I have to run right now. You should be allowed to cancel with a full refund for the cruise.
MattieandPearl Posted October 24, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 24, 2007 firefly...and an itenerary change to the Progresso....a progressive dump! They gave us 50. 00 for that last time. By the time we sail the casinos and clubs will be closed, the food will be a has been!

Texas_firefighter Posted October 24, 2007 #10 Share Posted October 24, 2007 I called back and NO cancellations on this one .Therefore the 100 dollars per person OBC, not per cabin. I'll keep it !
faeriechick Posted October 24, 2007 #11 Share Posted October 24, 2007 Hmmmm. Well since I got my info from Adolfo and Mitzi, and they got their info from Terry, I think I'll take their word over that of a PVP. :)
Texas_firefighter Posted October 24, 2007 #12 Share Posted October 24, 2007 Well, I dont know who they are, but the main thing is that the proper info. gets out.I talked to two separate people about this, not just the same pvp. For those that may cancel, check on your own,for us we're sticking anyway. parrotthead Posted October 24, 2007 #13 Share Posted October 24, 2007 **Ok, initinally it sucks...but: 1) I think $100 Per PERSON OBC is good. Id take it. 2) The casino is not going to be closed...I have *never* been on a cruise where the casino was closed at 10pm! As a matter of a fact it would not be opening much before that time if you sailed at 5 as scheduled. 3) Im sure there *will be food* ..Again, never been on a cruise where people starved. :D 4) Firefly is correct, they are allowed to cancel/reschedule or substuite ports of call, thems the breaks. ~~ You could come in to work for me and I'll go on your 'crappy cruise to 'less progressive' Progreso ~~;) :p
emilyh Posted October 24, 2007 Author #14 Share Posted October 24, 2007 One of the people in our group contacted our travel agent and they said there were not cancellations even with the trip insurance. It will be fun but it is dissapointing that we will basically miss the entire first day on the ship. I agree with MattieandPearl and feel that there should be an additional credit to the credit card not the sign and sail for this reason.
wrp96 Posted October 24, 2007 #15 Share Posted October 24, 2007 PH, they won't be able to open the casino until the ship sails away. If they don't start boarding until 10pm, that's well into the middle of the night before the casino can open, so the casino probably won't be open that night at all. But keep begging and someone might let you take their place!:p
parrotthead Posted October 24, 2007 #16 Share Posted October 24, 2007 Not sure why you think you should get a refund, do you think the people onboard now should have to pay more? (afterall they are getting extra cruise time---the lucky dogs) I think $100 pp OBC is generous. You are not really missing 'the entire first day' only several hours. I agree it is disappointing. I would be let down, but the captian is incharge of keeping everyone safe.

I bet they expidite the boarding process, etc. Its not like people are going to be stragling on the ship over several hours, like if boarding started at 10am. come on... woof ii: you are one silly pup. But I love ya anyway.
JJMM Posted October 24, 2007 #18 Share Posted October 24, 2007 If anyone is really interested in cancelling, below is the link and info that states you can cancel within 24 hours... http://www.carnival.com/CMS/Static_Templates/EMB_Conditions_of_Contract.aspx Change In Itinerary If Carnival Cruise Lines (“Carnival”) has adequate notice prior to sailing that a vessel with deviate from the published itinerary, it will promptly upon making the itinerary change notify passengers of the change through their travel agents or directly, in the case of a direct booking (the “Notice”). The Notice shall offer passengers an opportunity to cancel their booking without penalty within 24 hours of the delivery of the Notice. Carnival shall not be liable to guests for any charges, fees or expenses paid or owed to third parties (such as air travel booked by a guest directly with an airline) in connection with a cancelled booking or substituted port. In the event a passenger does not cancel his or her cruise on a timely basis, no additional compensation for the itinerary change will be offered to the passenger at a later time. Texas_firefighter Posted October 24, 2007 #19 Share Posted October 24, 2007 There it is in writing. and this: In the event the itinerary change becomes necessary while the ship is at sea or when notice prior to sailing is not feasible, Carnival shall attempt to substitute an alternative port. Carnival shall promptly provide written notice of the itinerary change to the passengers, as well as announcing the change in the Carnival Capers and via the public address system. No compensation shall be provided to passengers when an alternative port is offered. If safety, scheduling or other concerns prevent the ship from calling on an alternative port, Carnival shall promptly provide written notice of the elimination of the scheduled port to the passengers as well as announcing the change in the Carnival Capers and via the public address system. The written notice shall also offer a shipboard credit of $20.00 per person to be reflected on the sail and sign account Sounds as if 1. we're lucky they had notice 2. 200.00 is WAY better than the stated 20.00 ! But of course ,there is also the delayed boarding . All in all ,VERY fair I think .Not so bad when you get over the initial surprise of the notice. LHP Posted October 24, 2007 #24 Share Posted October 24, 2007 Our connecting flight out of Atlanta was delayed 18 hours because of weather and we did not get so much as a meal voucher....2 kids in tow. I am sure the airlines did that just to get more revenue for their restaurant vendors!!!
