Upgrade at Boarding

Has anyone had an upgrade at Boarding? The other cruises I have taken on CCL I was upgraded when I got to the ship. Does this happen with NCL?

After following these boards for maybe a year, I can answer YES and NO.

 

I have never heard of anyone getting at upgrade at boarding because they asked for it or were offered.

 

I have heard of someone not knowing about an upgrade until they boarded, but it was usually assigned somewhere along the line, vs being requested on the pier.

Granted, they were on a one-nighter, but it does happen.

 

I've seen other stories on this board that make you say, "I hope that happens to me some day."

One of the other cruiselines often will "sell" upgrades at the pier. NCL pretty much fills them via Upsells in advance and try to have all rooms assigned before the ship arrives in port. But, as mentioned strange things happen.
