CRUZdaBOAT Posted October 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2007 We are looking for a 1 day pass to a nice resort in Barbados. Any suggestions or experiences would be great.
Aplmac Posted October 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2007 We are looking for a 1 day pass to a nice resort in Barbados. Hilton Hotel. US$ 25 each, depending on how full they are. They suggest you phone ahead (426-0200) to see if they can handle you -or not- on that day. Your 25 gets you a chair, a towel, a shower, but is not refundable at bar and restaurant. Just a bit beyond Bridgetown, and your ship. CRANE Beach Hotel. Bds.$25 each (=US$12.50 ea.) gets you in, a beach chair, towel, etc. and is refundable at bar/restaurant. Probably your best/most-scenic bet,all told. Out at the Eastern end of the island, but well worth the greater distance(about 15? miles by road). Pink sand and 'kinda' spectacular - you'll see! (Ask 'Barbados' to show you his picture) Boatyard: US$ 15 each. gets you a drink, beach chair, shower, and a ride back to the ship! Close to Bridgetown and your ship. Lobster Alive!: Free admission, but US$5 for a lounge chair, and another US$5 for a biig beach umbrella(see pic) Right next door to Boatyard, on Carlisle Bay and similarly close to your ship. Order Caribbean Lobster and other seafood from their lunch menu! Boatyard and Lobster Alive! are not resorts/hotels, they're more like public beach-clubs: hope that's OK with you! _________________________________________
CRUZdaBOAT Posted October 26, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted October 26, 2007 Thank you for the post! We will be using a wheel chair, would you consider one beach/resort vs. another?
calenita Posted November 1, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 1, 2007 What do you mean refundable at bar or restaurant? I would love to go to Crane Beach but hear it is too rough for swimming. Is there a pool there we can use?
Aplmac Posted November 1, 2007 #5 Share Posted November 1, 2007 What do you mean refundable at bar or restaurant? I would love to go to Crane Beach but hear it is too rough for swimming. Is there a pool there we can use? 'Refundable' in drinks and grub, at their bar and restaurant. Sorry, maybe refundable was the wrong word to use. ............................. Yes, Crane Beach itself is a bit on the rough side - there's quite a beach break. Depends on the day and that day's sea conditions of course but if you are a strong swimmer who knows what he/she's doing and can get out beyond the surf zone, out into the turquoise bits it's almost a dream state out there, but you gotta have your wits about you! ............................. Yes, there's a pool you can swim in, up top(not at beach level) in front of the hotel - near the suspended bar and restaurant. It's very nice up there at The Crane - it's hard to leave (and I live here)! Let me tell you just how memorable your day at the Crane will be. I still have strong clear memories of Sundays spent at the beach, there as a lil kid of 5 and 6 (that was 1955 and 1956) - this is now 2007. That should tell you. You will never forget your day at The Crane. __________________________________
calenita Posted November 2, 2007 #6 Share Posted November 2, 2007 Thanks for the info! How much would a cab be for us from the port? We are a family of five. When we were in Barbados on a cruise many years ago we took a taxi to a beach nearer the port and I just did not like it as much. We also did a nice long walk then back to the ship which was very doable. We stopped downtown somewhere and my hubby bought me a nice ring for our anniversary so that was all nice. Aplmac Posted November 2, 2007 #7 Share Posted November 2, 2007 How much would a cab be for us from the port? We are a family of five. Hope I'm not your only response!!:) I'll admit..I'm not good with taxi fares, coz I simply don't use them (have owned my own car for too many years!) but I should think it'll be about U.S.$25-30 for five of you and that's one way. Don't quote me on this, and don't be surprised if it's more when you get here (this is not a cheap island and gasoline costs!) Maybe someone else who's actually done this trip within the last year or so will be in a better position to help you? A lot depends on which taxi driver you pick, whether his wallet is already flush with U.S.Dollars or not, etc. I believe they're supposed to have standardized fares but you know how it goes! It's clear across the other side of the island, out past the airport but is worth the slog, I reckon! The island is 14 miles wide and Crane is almost at the Eastern extremity so it's going to be about a 15 mile trip, taking 40 mins?
Cruise Meister Posted November 19, 2007 #8 Share Posted November 19, 2007 Of all the places we have visited... I would say Crane Beach is the most spectacular beach on earth. The rolling blue waves will hyptnotize you. Its a great place to walk, and explore. Cant wait to go back!

Cruise meister, I couldn't agree with you more!. Crane is our favorite in this hemisphere. You have to go a long way to beat this beach (S. pacific or Indian Ocean). We are not spending as much time in Barbados as we have as our work takes us to other areas of the world, but I have a soft spot in my heart for Crane (and the whole East coast of Barbados). Hands-down, it is without match in the Caribbean. It is worth the time and trouble to visit. Trust me. :) :) :)
Aplmac Posted November 19, 2007 #10 Share Posted November 19, 2007 Of all the places we have visited... I would say Crane Beach is the most spectacular beach on earth. The rolling blue waves will hypnotize you. Told you! :) I am l-o-n-g overdue to get up there and take some pics for you guys..sorry! But when it happens I shall plaster The Crane and Bottom Bay pics all over here for you..and on my website! ...I'm just busy as he11 coming up to Christmas, but my workplace takes the break around mid-December so any time after that I shall put Wife in the car and we're off with the camera over to the South-East Coast on a mission. It's no mistake that I always use this colour when I speak of The Crane: it's the closest I can get...to the amazing colour of the water! Nothing can take away from The Crane but you want to also see a recent webpage I did on Accra Beach - check it out at http://www.angelfire.com/wizard2/cncisland/bigships/Accra.html where you'll see more of this colour font..sorry water :)

orchid69 Posted November 24, 2007 #12 Share Posted November 24, 2007 Your description about the Crane is exciting. After our cruise 12/2 - 12/9 my husband and I booked the Crane for 4 days. Aplmac Posted November 24, 2007 #13 Share Posted November 24, 2007 We like to get a day pass to the Hilton. When you get into the Cruise Terminal building at the Bridgetown Port, BARBADOS find a phone somewhere and dial 426-0200 - that's Hilton's PBX. Ask the lady who answers your call...about whether they can take you that day - it's subject to availability If the hotel is too full, they may refuse you but with luck, she'll tell you to come on over! :) ___________________________________ I was just there yesterday afternoon.. but here are a few shots of Hilton Barbados that I took a few weeks ago. bellasorella Posted November 25, 2007 #15 Share Posted November 25, 2007 Can anyone give me a link to find a map of barbados with these resorts all listed? Thought I had one at GLory Tours site, but many of these beaches didn't show....I want to get a sense of where exactly they all are... While Cranes sounds beautiful, we don't want to go that far, and want to stay on the wewstern or southern shores...leaning toward Boatyard/CArlisle Bay, Any reason we shouldn't make this choice? Would like to hear from other recent cruisers, pls....
alpinemccain Posted December 4, 2007 #16 Share Posted December 4, 2007 We will be there on Feb 13 from 9h00 am to 6h00 PM. I was thinking doing a little shopping/walking around from 9h00-11h00 (is there anything like that close to the port) and then either going to the Hilton or Crane) Is the Hilton as far as the Crane from the Port? Hilton is MUCH closer. You can see your ship from the Hilton's front entrance although not from their beach where you'll spend most of your time. I'm an island-boy, living on Barbados. Sounds like you want to go to the Carlisle Bay area, at either Lobster Alive or Boatyard (right next door to ea.other) or better yet to ACCRA/Rockley Beach (even better, but 10 mins. further out) West Coast is OK too. Yes, Crane is clear across the island
bellasorella Posted December 4, 2007 #19 Share Posted December 4, 2007 aplmac.. thank you for all the good info...let me bother you further..... Boatyard sounds great and convenient, but we will be there first week in January and I expect it to be PACKED with cruisers and somewhat commercial -- would you agree? And wouldn't Lobster Alive! present a similar problem? Cranes sounds lovely, but too far for us that day....Will try giving the Hilton a call, but again, possible crowds and, after all, a "hotel beach." Accra/Rockley sounds like the solution ....What do you think? what was their admission and what is included, again? And can you, by any chance, give me a link to a map that shows where the beaches are? I have been on the Barbados tourism and other sites to no avail -- can't seem to find one that shows me all the beaches -- am used to that from other islands!!! Again, your advice is much valued. Cheers!! Sandra

If you're any good at the Search function on this site, and if you restrict the search to BARBADOS section only, you should be able to find it. Good luck. Aplmac Posted December 15, 2007 #22 Share Posted December 15, 2007 Crane Beach sounds incredible, but I've found two resorts on the web: "The Crane" and the "Crane Beach Hotel." I'm assuming it's the latter that offers the one-day pass? Not entirely sure about thisbut yes, I'd assume too that it's Crane Beach Hotel that does the day pass thing. Just head for the hotel with portico type front entrance and you are there. After you get thru the door, veer to the left towards the suspended Bar that literally hangs out over the beach. Careful not to let your jaw drop and hit the railing. :) And if you've forgotten your camera you can always have your partner kick you - it won't hurt for long :D

The Mommy Posted February 5, 2008 #24 Share Posted February 5, 2008 Hello What wonderful information and thank you for helping us all out with your expertise. I have been to Barbados twice, the first time we did a catamaran trip and the second time we went to The Escape hotel as a day guest but didn't care for the beach too much. This year we find ourselves on the island from 7.00am to when we sail at 11.00pm so we want to do some fantastic beach and excellent hotel facilities. We paid for an all inclusive day pass last time and it was great but can you recommend a great hotel with a great beach where we can spend the day with seas not too rough and pink sand and great reggae music. We are a young at heart party of 14. Hope you can help
swom Posted February 10, 2008 #25 Share Posted February 10, 2008 Crane beach sounds wonderful. Would one of you "natives" say it's the best beach on the island as far as swimming, snorkling just relaxing in the water? How is the snorkling in Barbados?? How far is it from the cruise terminal? I've never seen such beautiful water and after seeing Half Moon CAY, I never thought I'd say that. LOL
