Belize City

My wife and I are going to Belize on the Norwegian Spirit in March. Is there anything good to do that does not involve tubing, ruins or kayaking or is this a good port to just stay on the ship and relax? We enjoy beaches and shopping. Any help is greatly appreciated.

there are several asking questions for upcoming trips. i am going on the NCL spirit in 35 days. belize is well known for this mayan ruins, since i missed going there 12 years ago, i am making the most of this trip. doing the lamanai (mayan site) and the river boat safari. it's a all day tour, doing it through the ship, so i won't miss the boat if the tour gets delayed. http://www.belizeexplorer.com/cgi-local/explorer.cgi?db=explorer&uid=default&Category=Mayan+Sites&view_records=1&nh=6&mh=1

i will be able to give better advice when i get back. reviews and pictures will be posted!!

The ship will drop anchor a LONG,LONG way from the city. There is no beach here, You have to take a water taxi to an island. They run on schedule. We went to Caulker Caye for snorkling and were very disappointed. We LOVED the cave tubing. Ambergus Caye is supposed to be the place to go. Maybe next time we'll go there. (Been to Belize 5 times.) One time it was raining so just checked out shops at the port and went back to the ship.

They plan to 'buldoze' the coral so ships can come into the actual port but that is years away and I'm sure there is a group or two fighting this.
