CalgonMoment Posted October 30, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 30, 2007 I won this dress on Ebay, but now I have no idea what kind of jewelery to wear with it. All I own are simple gold or silver chains with small jewel pendants. This seems to call for something more dramatic. I am wearing simple black patent leather peep toes, so no concerns about competing with the shoes. I need suggestions that stay around $30 or less. Thanks
CruiseCrabs Posted October 30, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 30, 2007 A jet crystal set (chocker, earrings and bracelet) would offset the patent nicely but the primary concern is to not overdo anything as the simple lines of the dress should be the first thing you notice. Thanks I LOVE the color:D and personally, I think a white metal would look lovely. The neckline is such that I think you have many choices of what would look good. I personally think you need to try the dress on and see what looks best. A pendant that falls right in the neckline but not too long of a chain. And yes, something more substantial. Good luck in your search......love the dress!:)
Jane110 Posted October 31, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 31, 2007 I would suggest bringing the dress to a local store that sells lots of costume jewelry, putting the dress on and then trying on lots of different jewelry and seeing which one looks best. abba_dabba_doo Posted October 31, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 31, 2007 Love the dress and the color. I also agree that w/that neckline you can do something a bit longer that will fall to the cleavage, but not too long where it gets lost or you can't see it. I'm into silver these days, so I think something silver w/a pretty pendent on it will look nice. Do some drop earrings and maybe a braclet and you're all set! CalgonMoment Posted November 2, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted November 2, 2007 Thanks for the advice. My kids gave me some pretty jewelery for my birthday, all silver and big enough to go with the dress. They must have read this thread;)
34TigerLily Posted November 2, 2007 #7 Share Posted November 2, 2007 I would go for long dramatic crystal earrings and skip the necklace. the trend now seems to be either big earrings or a necklace, not both.
suezyq50 Posted November 3, 2007 #8 Share Posted November 3, 2007 When in doubt, I buy 3-4 different styles, being sure I can return what doesn't work, take them home and try on with the outfit.

CalgonMoment Posted November 3, 2007 Author #10 Share Posted November 3, 2007 Um, wow! The jewelery is a bit more dramatic than I was thinking. Thanks, I am more of a classic/victorian style. http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s297/kristan6/jes13.jpg What about something like this?

scgirl816 Posted November 3, 2007 #12 Share Posted November 3, 2007 I like the 1st of those 3. But I was thinking of something chunkier like this... http://www.sammoon.com/web3/items.asp?sub=sub&cat=jewelry&tempcat=Trendy_Style&tbl=Trendy_Style&img=10192007img_4505&id=2742&se=530653073 or maybe even this... http://www.sammoon.com/web3/items.asp?sub=sub&cat=jewelry&tempcat=Trendy_Style&tbl=Trendy_Style&img=7162007img_6229&id=2468&se=530653073 or this... http://www.sammoon.com/web3/items.asp?sub=sub&cat=jewelry&tempcat=Trendy_Style&tbl=Trendy_Style&img=3222007img_6643&id=2125&se=530653073
madge57 Posted November 3, 2007 #13 Share Posted November 3, 2007 If you can't find anything that you like but know what kind you want why not make your own jewlery!! Its very easy to do and the you will have just what you want!!Trust me this is coming from someone that had no ideal that making your jewlery was so easy!!:)
CalgonMoment Posted November 3, 2007 Author #14 Share Posted November 3, 2007 I like this one. The others were a bit much. I guess I am discovering that I am an understated kind of girl. Some of the jewelery I look at and think "I could never!"
Jane110 Posted November 3, 2007 #15 Share Posted November 3, 2007 Nope, none of them. #1 is too casual. Good with a black tee shirt. #2 is for a 15 year old girl just discovering that she loves vintage. Looks like it's costs under $5.00 and will cheapen your dress. #3 is too small for the dramatic neckline of your dress

Some of the jewelery I look at and think "I could never!" Needs to be tried on with the dress, but this shows a lot of promise. The black/grey stones are nice with your dress, the size/proportions seem good, and it's right in style. Could be an excellent choice.
scgirl816 Posted November 3, 2007 #17 Share Posted November 3, 2007 I agree...I like that one too. And for the prices on there, you can try it out, and if it doesn't work, you haven't dropped too much on it, and you can wear it with something else! sewgoddess Posted November 4, 2007 #18 Share Posted November 4, 2007 I wouldn't go chunky. Keep it simple. I would also go with gold shoes, not black. Gold jewelry also - maybe an antique gold with a ruby stone. Simple and elegant. Love the dress - great find.

Gotta disagree with your suggestions: CalgonMoment has already stated she's wearing black patent peep-toe pumps - which I think are a perfect choice. I think black stones necklace and earrings (like the ones pictured) are perfect in that they're simple and elegant as well as bold. I think the simplicity of the dress, with its strong color and plunging neckline calls for a bold piece of jewelry. IMO, antique gold with a ruby stone is too safe and predictable and will look ho-hum instead of glam. CalgonMoment - if you have nice shapely legs, you might also consider a sheer black hose with a lace pattern.
CalgonMoment Posted November 6, 2007 Author #21 Share Posted November 6, 2007 Thanks Jane, I think I am gonna go with the black stones. No shapely legs, I was thinking of going bare legged, as I tan well and hate hose. scgirl816 Posted November 6, 2007 #22 Share Posted November 6, 2007 Great choices! I definitely think black is the way to go with this one...and the neckline is bold and calls for something that pops! Have fun! Take a pic when it's all together! MsMinx Posted November 6, 2007 #25 Share Posted November 6, 2007 I love the dress. I know you said you've decided on black jewellery, but what about something like this? I think the gold / bronze colours and metalic look would suit that dress beautifully :D The length of the chains would also really suit the neckline :D
