Scheduling Rental car drop off? San Diego

We are first time cruisers, so we aren't sure how the whole embarkation process works.

 

What time should we schedule to drop off our rental car in San Diego, to board Carnival Spirit (Mexican Riveria itnerary) I was thinking 12:30- is that too early?

 

I really need to get this car booked soon, as the rates are getting higher everytime I look!

We were just on the Elation on 10/25 out of San Diego- we started to get on around noon and others were already on...12:30 isn't too early! Get on the ship as early as possible so you can enjoy lunch on the ship!:o
