For Those Who Don't Like the Coffee

I have one of these that we take to the Caribbean, when we don't drink a lot of coffee, but need a cup or two to get us started in the AM. They are small, no pot to break, and they make one brewed up of coffee at a time. Easy to transport and pack, and have no warming plate. So they are very safe as they shut off automatically when finished.

I have one that also makes two individual cups at a time, but the machine is much larger than this and harder to pack, so it doesn't go on cruises with us. But this little one cup at a time pot is perfect and takes up almost no space in the luggage.

I guess there is a Stater Bros. there. It's on Vista Way over by WalMart & Best Buy, Oceanside. Neatest little French press I've ever seen. At that price, they'd make great gifts for anyone who likes coffee. Now, all I have to do is figure out how to boil the water on the ship.

I guess there is a Stater Bros. there. It's on Vista Way over by WalMart & Best Buy, Oceanside. Neatest little French press I've ever seen. At that price, they'd make great gifts for anyone who likes coffee. Now, all I have to do is figure out how to boil the water on the ship.

I order room service tea in the morning and use the boiled water for the coffee. During the day I can take the mug to HC and get hot water from the machine. Or I bring that infuser thing that goes into a cup.

I was on the Grand, I meant maybe the coffee in general, or the quality of the syrup got better. I'm happy with pre-ground Folgers, I don't need fancy stuff, but that coffee was swill. Until I found the real brewed stuff at the casino bar!

Mine is exactly like the one in the photo. I also bought a rubber gasket and a screen, just in case. Those were $10.00 so I now have $35. invested in this thing. I could have bought 3 of these French presses. Live and learn.

I have used both the bodum and the planetary design travel presses, and prefer the planetary design models (keep the coffee warmer, and the press plunger seems to fit better in the cup itself)...but they are twice the price:

I also pack along a little hand grinder so I can have freshly ground coffee (can't wait to grind some excellent kona beans in Hawaii this January):

Finally, if you hate cold coffee, this travel thermos mug is one of the BEST investments you will ever make. It is leakproof, and the coffee stays HOT for hours and hours; plus, it has a neat sip-through /pop-top /flip-up cap, so you can drink while you drive, and you don't need to unscrew anything to reach your coffee. I actually keep this in my jacket pocket for outdoor activities...the model number is the JMW500:

I'm not so fussy as to only like freshly-ground coffee, but the syrup type sounds disgusting. I'm perfectly prepared to bring a small jar of my favourite instant coffee, as long as I can get boiling water to make it with. Has anyone had that experience on Princess?

Hot water yes, boiling water no. Hot water is always available at the Horizon Court.

At home, I drink whatever is on sale, so I am not a coffee snob at all, but I still find Princess's coffee undrinkable unless I add liberal amounts of half and half or use a flavored liquid creamer that we bring on board. Mostly, though, I just skip coffee on Princess and use my soda card to get club soda, which I drink all day long.

I have no idea what the coffee tastes like, I haven't been on a Princess cruise since 1995. But it really doesn't matter to me because I put so much sweetener (with or without flavoring) and creamer in my coffee that it all ends up tasting pretty much the same.

I love my Dunkin Donuts coffee. Either send DH or DS on Sat and Sun early morning to get and during the week, I stop at one on the way to work to get my morning fix. Starbucks waaay to strong.

 

I have a one cupper that I also take on cruises, it is by Black & Decker and I think I paid about $20 for it. Makes 9 ounces of coffee. Comes with its own insulated cup and gold filter. You just fill the cup with water to the line, pour the water in the top, put the cup on the stand, and within 3 mintues a good cup of coffee:) I bring a can of Maxwell House and use the bottled water. Also, I am a cream in your coffee nut, so stop on the way to the ship and pick up some cream or half & half. Have a baggie with ice from the hotel and it stays cool until we get to our room:)

 

I also bring a round surge plug with just two receptors and put that in the wall next to the phone. When coffee is done, I just pull the plug. Put the grounds in a ziplock and throw in the trash.

 

I usually set it up the night before and then sit on the balcony enjoying the coffee in the morning. If any left when we are ready to go to breakfast, I take it with me.:D

 

Leave the coffee that is not used but bring the coffee maker & surge plug home. It does not take up much space. I just bubble wrap it and put in the middle of the suitcase.
