Length of walking to aft cabins

Recommended Posts

undefined

We have an aft cabin #1600 booked on our upcoming cruise on the Brilliance and it is our first aft and we have always heard that it is a very long walk to get to these. However, I just read on another thread that it was only 120 steps from the elevator to the cabin right next to ours and that doesn't seem far at all. We were willing to walk off the extra calories we'd be consuming but a shorter walk doesn't sound so bad. Does anybody know if it is unusually long?

It was a really long walk lol. Where ever you needed to go it seemed like a long walk to us. But I think that's a plus, with all of the food you eat on a cruise, so there you go. But if someone was handicapped and didn't have a wheel chair I'd say stick to the middle of the ship closer to the elevators.

the first walk down that corridor seems forever, but by the end of the week you don't even think about it. you do learn to remember everything the first time out so you don't get to the elevators and say oh no i forgot this or that and have to make that trek back tho lol.

we had 1602 on our last Radiance cruise and will have either 1100 or 1600 on our upcoming Serenade cruise - the walk is not that bad from the centrum area unless you're terribly out of shape or handicapped in some way. I think people exaggerate a bit about the walk because they don't want others to book those cabins!!!:D The bigger balconies are more than worth the extra steps!!!

I have to laugh, remembering people who were in the aft section of the Splendour in March. On formal night I saw a large group where the women had flip-flops on, and were carrying their high heels, and then they were all putting them on in the elevator, and stuffing the flip-flops in a purse. Finally, one explained where they walked from .....but said it was worth it!! Thus we booked a center aft on an April Rhapsody cruise. And, you better believe that is where ya'll find us parked on a trip to Alaska!

The walk can´t be that bad, because the ship isn´t longer on the cabin decks then elsewhere.

Just think of it like this.

It´s the same walk from the Centrum to the aft. cabins like from the Centrum to the back of the Windjammer, to the back of the Dining room, to the Mini-Golf or to the Safari Club lounge. You´ll walk this distance regardless where your cabin is located.

If your cabin would be located in the forward section of the ship (I´m speaking of a location just around the forward elevators, not al the way down in the front) you would have to walk app. the same way everytime going to the dining room or windjammer. Never heard anybody complain about this.

So don´t worry and enjoy your aft. cabin.

We had an aft cabin on Radiance and it was WONDERFUL - these are the best cabins on the ship by far!!! There is a "crew" staircase back there that I used a few times to go up to deck 11 (Windjammer) and no one bothered me about it. It's a long walk but well worth the extra steeps you'll learn quickly to make sure you have everything you need when you leave the cabin. ENJOY!!

Yes, it is a long way; however, I don't think it's going to be a problem for the average person. If you have a toddler who walks slowly, or if anyone in your party has particular trouble in walking, then you might want to reconsider. For my family, it's just a tad bit more exercise and doesn't hurt us one bit.

We love the Aft cabins too, but I will say this, you will walk the hall many, many times and after a few days, will wish it wasn't so far. Of course, I love the aft cabins, so I take it as part of the experience and walk a few more calories off.

Suggestions if you book an aft cabin:

Always make sure you take "everything" with you when you leave the cabin, cause when you forget something, you'll get real mad at yourself! LOL!

Don't bother counting the footsteps, cause we all have different sized feet!

Be very careful about using the crew stairs, since some of the crew will give you heck about using "their" stairs. With that in mind, if you insist on using the crew stairs, be careful opening and closing the doors, since they often use these stairs to deliver food to cabins.

When you walk to or from your cabin, just look at the floor and your footsteps and the time will go by quicker then if you look down that loooooonnnngggggg hallway!

If you are a Casino junkie, you may want a forward cabin. You'll do a lot of walking!

Deb, Deb, Deb,

Ignore these lazy people. :D We've had an aft corner cabin on the VOYAGER class three times. Ship is bigger and walk is farther than on a RADIANCE class vessel. The walk is NO problem for a normal, healthy person. As for "being careful and not forgetting things that you have to go back for" - great advice BUT I ALWAYS forget things and OFTEN had to go back three or four times in between leaving the cabin and getting to my ultimate destination on the ship and you know what? IT DOESN'T MATTER. You are on vacation. Don't be in such a rush or such a hurry. The exercise is a BLESSING after all that food. I LOOKED FORWARD to the lovely walk back to my PRIVATE-NO-ONE-WHO-DOESN'T-BELONG-THERE-IS-IN-THE-CORRIDOR corner aft cabin, with its huge balcony and 180 degree view and two lounge chairs and table and three chairs.

JMHO and YMMV.

Carol

Oh, and PLEASE don't use the crew stairs. It's just not nice.

Deb, you asked if the walk was "unusually long". For most people, the walk IS unusually long, but worth the extra time because the cabins are so nice. It simply depends on what you like and don't like.

I'm NOT LAZY! I just look at things very realistically and some people would think that it is a very long walk. If you're on a cruise longer than 7 days, you may get tired of the long walk. For others, they couldn't care less, like Merion Mom. Best way to find out is try it and see what you think.

As for the crew stairs, I have actually been told by the crew that I COULD use the stairs, which I thought was very interesting. Without being told, I never would have used them.

To bring it on an objective level and enable you to decide yourself.

The ship length overall is 962 feet. I would say the sections forward, between and after the elevators are app. each 1/3 of the ship wich makes the way from centrum elevators to the back app. 320 feet.

But you have to keep in mind that the passenger decks are not expanding the full length of the ship, so it´s a lot less than that.

Breal6 is right. After the first time or two down the hallway you don't notice the length. I paced it off one night for us and it was 150 steps. Our intention all along was to try and excercise to work off our cruise weight gain. I'm sure the walking helped. I wouldn't hesitate to book in the aft again.

Thanks guys. It sounds like it's actually a good thing all the way around. I appreciate everybody's humble opinions and the not so humble ones :) I hope all of you that are going on cruises soon have an awesome time, I know I will.

We were in #1594 and did that walk several times a day. I think it seems long because the hallway is long and somewhat boring. As the above pic shows, it just seems to go on forever. When you are up on deck, you walk around the entire ship and just do not feel like you have walked as far as when you are in that corridor.

Yes it is a long walk! We love the stern cabins. My wife and I are both lame and solve the problem by renting elec. scooters. We may have to wait longer for an elevator that has ample room, but it is still better than trying to walk that long way. My wife loves the shows, so she needs the help to go forward: I love the FOOD so can get there without the scooter.

The scooters have made it possile for us to cruise on largrer ships. Midship would solve only half the problem so we go to the stern suites. I love to watch the wake!

Hey Yall,

Well my husband nor I have any reason we can't walk, so aft it is. Seaside2358, I would love to hear about your experience when you get back. Tell me about the noise level too. Have a great cruise, I'm jealous you're much closer than we are.

Debbie :)

I had 1600 on the Radiance from Hawaii, 1100 on the Jewel in Europe and those aft cabins are really wonderful - if you don't mind the walk. Interesting to note that you can't see the end of the hallway on the above picture! LOL!

On my last post, I was actually trying to be funny....hope it came across that way. :)

The noise is minimal, although you will hear the ship porting in the morning hours since the noise for that operation does come from the stern (aft). As for hearing noise from the Windjammer, it wasn't bad at all. We found ourselves getting up early for shore excursions, breakfast, so the moving of chairs, in the Windjammer was minimal noise. You'll love Cabin 1600! It is an odd shape, but very comfortable. Enjoy your cruise.

My husband Chris and I will be in cabin #1100 on your Valentines Day cruise...So we'll be walking those halls together!

On our last cruise on the Brilliance we were back behind the crew stairway, not all the way back to the stern but it wasn't a bad walk at all. We had booked before the ship came out so we thought we were close to the back stairway...not knowing it was just for crew. I did pop into it a couple times and never met anyone.

I think we made a great choice of cabins!! See you in February!

You'll walk all over no matter where you are on the ship, unless you're far more organized than we are. We always book an aft cabin (1100 on Radiance coming up!) and don't even notice any greater walking that when we are "stuck" in a midships cabin. We also take the stairs instead of the elevators, and that hurts a lot more!

I wear low heels even on formal night, but my dogs end up barking anyway. I guess I get a C in hygiene for wandering in my stocking feet, but putting shoes into my purse doesn't strike me as all that sanitary, either. Got a Kleenex? Sure! Never mind, I'll use my sleeve...:p

Thanks for the tip about the crew stairs! Being right below Windjammer, we'll probably want to take a trip for coffee or nibbles & wouldn't want everything to get cold!
