last minute packing

Something to collect laundry in, maybe.

What you don't need is a hair dryer, extra hangers and such.

As others have said, pack half the clothes and take a lot of quarters along for the washers and dryers in the laundry rooms on the upper decks. The coin dispensers in the laundry rooms are balky, but the purser's desk can sell you rolls of quarters. From what I heard the casino only gives out chips!:D

Corkscrew/bottle opener if you're planning to bring wine or beer onboard or purchasing any in ports

A little DVD player and some movies (especially if you have kids)

Digital camera charger & extra memory card

Basic 1st aid kit (e.g., aspirins/tylenol, bandaids, antibiotic cream like neosporin, motrin or similar, alcohol wipes)

Are you bringing anything that uses batteries?

Have a great time!

The best advice I can give is to bring your own coffee container. Most ships only have small cups and you will be the envy of the ship when you walk around with the big cup. No coffee blowing out of the cup when on a windy deck. After 18 cruises we have learned.:D

Here are my favorite little extras to pack:

An extension cord with multiple sockets..its essential for me for my camera batteries to charge up and other electrical things.

I LOVE to bring a glade scented plug in that comes with the little fan. I make sure to bring it with the cap so that it doesnt spill and then I just insert it into the dispenser. It makes the cabin smell really nice. I dont smoke, so if there is any tell tale scent of cigarette smoke, it masks it. Its the safest way to have some nice aromatheraphy in the cabin or bathroom. I actually bring 2, 1 for the cabin and 1 for the bathroom. You can get a dispenser with a night light as well. They have the light show one that is nice for bathroom. You can let it rotate colors or you can fix it to any one color or a nice muted white light and it emits the scent of your choice. I love the vanilla or lavender scents.

Remember never use candles or anything else that can be a fire hazard. No irons either. I bring a small travel clothes steamer to get out the wrinkles, it works great.

I also bring a magnified make up mirror and my own hair dryer, even though they have them in the cabin.

As mentioned, a larger mug for coffee/beverage. I use the ones I gotten from Disneyworld. A travel alarm clock.

I go nowhere without my binoculars. I am an avid birder. Its also great to just scan the ocean for dolphins and to look at the scenery from the ship.

A beachbag/totebag to bring my stuff when on excursions. (I also bring my own snorkel gear, so I need 2 bags). Its good to bring stuff (towel, a book to read, sunglasses) to the pool or spot of your choice on the ship.

Have a spectacular cruise.

I plan to bring quarters for the washers and dryers but what about washing powder and dryer sheets? Should I bring my own?

You can buy power with some of those quarters, but to be sure you have what you want to use, I suggest bring the quanitity you expect to use with you.

I do not remember seeing dryer sheets for sale in the laundry room. We just skip using those on a cruise.

Thanks, I'll bring a small amount of washing powder and dryer sheets with me then. As you said, they might not have the kind that I use.

Some people bring their own soap power with them in a baggie. I go to a local laundromat and buy them already boxed up there for $.50 each out of the vending machine. Bounce sheets are sold there as well for $.50. They do sell them in the self-service laundry is memory serves but I'm afraid of them running out.

Here are some other things I bring:

1. Small sewing kit. You just never know when/if a button is going to pop off. Throw a few safety pins in there, too just in case a zipper breaks or you need to pin a shirt.

2. Binoculars (if you have a balcony). I borrow them from my in-laws. They're somewhat pricey so better to borrow and return if you know anyone that owns a pair already.

3. Nail clippers and emery boards.

4. Lip Balm. People always pack sunblock but you don't really want that on your lips.

5. I know this one may sound a little strange but I bring a manilla envelope with 2 cardboard inserts (8.5 x 11). We buy one formal picture and this helps keep it safe while in your suitcase. If you put it in your suitcase with that bendy frame thing they give you, you never know what it's going to look like when you get back home.

6. 3 clothespins. I attach them to the bottom of the shower curtain for a little added weight so it won't blow in at you or out into the bathroom. The showers are pretty small so anything to help here is better than nothing.

7. I completely agree with pijod33...bring a travel mug. I can't tell you the number of times I've seen workers following people with mops that have spilled coffee on deck - especially during rough waters. And if you're a true coffee drinker, you don't have to make so many trips back and forth.

This is not something I bring with me but it is a tip. If you're traveling with someone else, pack the suitcase half and half. Split up your clothes into 2 piles. One half goes in one and the other half goes in the other. The other person does this as well. Should one piece of luggage get lost, you've still got the other and you BOTH have clothes until it shows up.

Happy Cruising!

You don't need to bring quarters. There is a change machine in the laundry room that converts bills to quarters. I've never had them not work but if they don't you can get quarters at the pursers desk. There are also machines that dispense powdered detergent but no dryer sheets. I think the cost for the detergent is $1 a box and there are several brands to choose from. If they run out or the machines break down they will put out free detergent. I don't like powdered detergent so I always bring my own liquid. I found some dissolving liquid detergent packets at Bed, Bath and Beyond. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&btsmode=true&SKU=14528350

I also bring a little oxyclean in a plastic bag in case I spill red wine on myself or anyone else. It's been known to happen.

Anytime! That's what we're all here for! :)

I can't believe I'm writing this tip but my friend swears by it. Instead of a Glade Plug-In, she buys those hanging scented things for your car - usually the coconut smelling one (because it smells like suntan lotion) and hangs it in the closet. She says it makes her feel like she's on the beach at all times.

A small flashlight...you never need one until you need it. I would never travel anywhere without one.

Some smart*ss person turned the lights off in a department store restroom as a joke. It was a good thing I had my trusty pocket size flashlight in my purse so I was able to find my way out of the pitch black room.

I would skip that unless you have one that is battery powered.

The outlets in the bathroom on every Princess ship I have been on do not work unless you have the lights turned on.

Interesting as it has always worked for us in the bathrooms that will accomodate a regular plug.

I take WASH EZE, which are little blue sheets you put in the washer and contain both detergent and softener. You can Google it to find out where to buy, but if you have a camping store near you you could save the postage. I bought mine cheaper from AsSeenOnTV.com They come 10 in a box and they're great. I used to bring little baggies with laundry detergent, but this is easier.

Now this is something new to me. We have always used a nitelite in the bathroom, with an adapter as you can't just plug it in, it won't fit, and it stays on even when the lights are turned off. I had never heard this told before..................but at least in the mini suites I can guarantee that the plug stays on even with the lights out. ;)
