"I have just found out from some friends booked on this maiden cruise that it has been cancelled! I rang P&O Australia who comfirmed the news and advised it is due to Hurricane Francis in the US, which has caused a delay in the dry-docking and $50 million dollar refurbishment! This means the ship will no longer arrive in Austalia on 16 Oct as was scheduled.

The Maiden 10 night cruise N433, was due to depart Sydney on October 20, and was already sold out with 1910 passengers due to sail. P&O is in the middle of notifying all passengers and agents that the sailing has been cancelled and they are issuing full refunds and providing a 20% discount on a future cruise!

 

P&O can't confirm when the ship will actually arrive as it depends on the Hurricane, and so cannot rule out having to cancel further cruises.

 

This is disasterous! It must be going to cost P&O an absolute fortune, not to mention the bad PR and its not even there fault! It will be even worse if they have to cancel the next cruise as it is a special event cruise sailing from Sydney to Melbourne specially for the Melbourne Cup (Australia's most famous horse race, and one of our biggest national sporting event!), that cruise has been sold out since late January and is full of passengers who do the same cruise every year!! It is still scheduled to depart 30 October, so fingers crossed!"

You never think about how far-reaching one event can be ... ! Must be a real surprise that a sailing in Australia is effected by a hurricane in FL

We are booked on the Sun in April and I'm anxious for a review of the ship. Wonder if all traces of Carnival are erased?

We had no knowledge of the ports in the south pacific..just thought it would be enlighting to sail with an Aus cruiseline. We have made several trips to Aus and NZ and simply love the countries and the people. Pls continue to post updates on the Sun Besides the P&O web site we have no sources of information
