Binoculars, sunscreen, at least one pair of shorts in case you have warm weather. More film than you ever thought you would need. A lot more cash than you think you need. Your best manners and a wild sense of humor.

Hi - I'm on the same cruise. I'm driving the Alaska Highway right now to get to it. I'm in Fort Nelson British Columbia. Maybe I'll run into you on the cruise. The scenery in B.C. is fantastic. Can't wait for the cruise.

passport/birth cert.
swimsuits and sandals
I personally wouldnt bring the longjohns unless you are doing some glacier hike or get extremely cold easily (and this from a Floridian!)

Just back from Vision 6-4 cruise, the weather was absolutely wonderful, we dragged all the cold weather gear and never got to actually wear any of it. Take the bug spray and the rain gear and the least amount heavy clothes you can layer is the answer, most days we were there we were in shirt sleves dragging along sweat shirts and jackets, have a wonderful trip Alaska is beautiful,

Unless you intend to sit around the pool on the ship on a sunny day, I wouldn't worry about the swimsuit. There is too much to see and do in Alaska to have time to sit around a pool.

tinydancer is right, bring some shorts. The day we arrived in fairbanks (June 6) it was 89 degrees. We were not ready for that kind of weather. Do bring gloves, it was cold while we were at Hubbard Glacier. We also took the White pass train up the summit and if you go outside to take pictures it will get very cold. The last day when we were doing Inside passage it was 86 degrees, hot, hot, hot, so do bring your swimsuit, you never know.

No need for long johns - we went on the glacier hike a few weeks ago and did not need long johns. It was chilly, but I would have been burning up with long johns on.

My wife packed a small umbrella that come in handy...we always kept it in the back pack (just in case a shower snuck up on us and we didn't have our rain gear).

I agree with the shorts....I WOULD bring a swimsuit though. Not necessarily for the pool, but for the jacuzzi. On our ship they were open 24 hours.

Sunglasses are a must if you are glacier trekking (sun reflects off the ice and it is BRIGHT). I like to bring a highlighter to keep track of the daily compass on the ship.

Finally, if you have them, bring 2 way radios. If you are traveling with anyone else, the radios come in handy if you get seperated on the boat or in port. Cell phone reception isn't always great, so 2 way radios could be a life saver.

postcard stamps, addresses, email addresses.

ditto on the extra film. It is rather costly onboard....and only a little better priced in the ports.

Charger for your digital camera!!! I forgot mine...and it had a very low battery....thankfully my cabin neighbor purchased a similar camera in one of the ports...and lent the charger to me!

One thing that wasn't mentioned which really came in handy on my Hawaiian cruise was a large plastic tumbler for iced tea. That is unless you like paying the ship's exorbinate prices for drinks or sodas.

DEFINATELY take a powerstrip; especially if you have a digital camera, laptop, clock all trying be be plugged into the one electrical outlet in the cabin. I would have been lost without mine. OH, also, a nightlight for the bathroom.

There are no tangibles but how you taste; and I've never forgotten that.

Wow Tinydancer! Fairbanks is warmer than central Minnesota. Save some of that warm weather for our visit in August.

Unvrknow - Don't go too overboard on the heavy Winter weight clothes. Bring stuff that you can layer because you'll be peeling them as the day goes on. A windproof jacket with a longsleeve microfleece shirt will be a good bet for the glacier watching. My DH and I like to travel with a pair of convertible pants with legs that zip off to make shorts.

As others have mentioned, bring the bug spray, but don't forget sunscreen and sunglasses either.

Have a great time!

The nice thing about it being so hot is that all the mosquitos are sleeping during the day to stay out of the heat! YEA!

What I found that works as well as bug spray is some dryer sheets; they smell a lot better too. There's a chemical in the sheets that the bugs don't like; siimply tie one to a belt loop.
