Artemis - September 2008 Black Sea - Anyone going?

Hi, we are on Artemis - first time on P&O - leaving Southampton 1st September 2008 to the Black sea. Anyone else going?

Not going, but envious.

 

She is a lovely ship - we sailed on her 4 times as Royal Princess.

Well I'm glad to hear that, because I have read some awful reviews, but she is having a refit this November and anyway, I will take as I find. I expect we will love it!!

It would appear that the refit included cabin upgrades ie mattresses etc. (not the bathrooms which in some cases are a bit tired) She is a lovely ship I have come to the conclusion that those who criticise her just don't like smaller ships. Have sailed on her twice, recent trip last August, and had no complaints.

 

The London Stadium Theatre group who work on board Artemis must put on one of the best shows afloat.

 

One of our fellow passengers on board booked for the Black Sea cruise was tempted, may be another time

If you go to the P&O Cruise Connections site (part of the main P&O website) there is a section called onboard forums (OBF) and within that a section for individual ships.

 

Under the Artemis part of that forum you will find a review of the ship post refit from a site member who travelled on Artemis on the first cruise immediately after the refit.

 

Also, I will be onboard her in May for the 2 night weekender so will report on the ship after then.

What you get is a very comfortable,friendly ship-lots of deck space-good food and entertainment.

Very quick embarkation and same on return to Southampton.

I can't understand why Artemis gets some bad reviews - as previously said, I think they come from people who like big, modern, glizty ships. If you like a traditional, elegant ship, which still comes with separate cinema, show lounge, dancing, etc, then I think she is perfect. She is also a good size to get into ports the huge liners cannot manage.

 

I will be joining you Jean on the BlackSea cruise by the way!!

Hi Cat, as our other three cruises have been on smaller ships, then I think Artemis is going to feel enormous!! We have been on Page & Moy's Ocean Majesty (about 12,000 tons I think) followed by the Van Gogh and then Athena (16,000 tons), so at 45,000 tons, Artemis will feel like a very big girl to us. I hate the looks of the mega liners - they look top heavy and as you say glitzy. We are excited about this forthcoming trip, but a few months to go yet.

I sailed on Caronia (26,000 tons) and actually Artemis doesn't feel that big, especially for a longer cruise with quite a few sea days. Still, a few months to go yet (although I have a cruise before then to keep me going).

We have sailed on 10 ifferent ships over 25 cruises.

 

Two ships high-up there in terms of overall enjoyment were the Victoria (P&O) and the Caronia (Cunard) - both quite small compared with the "leviathans"
