There's no point in going to the Glory before 11am, because passengers are still getting off the ship at 10:30. There was also no seating area that I saw, like at the Fort Lauderdale port so you can't sit and wait. We've never bothered to book a shuttle before noon.

 

Just returned from Western 11/17-24/07 and we arrived at the port about 10:30, checked in with VIP and were on the ship by 11:30. They had chairs set up to sit on and it was not too crowded then. I don't know how crowded it was later in the day.

So is the Riviera deck above or below what I assume are lifeboats sticking ot the sides ?

 

The Riviera deck is two decks down from the red line in the picture, below the lifeboats.

From Raleigh it took us almost 10 hours, I have done it in 8 hours, but the weather wasn't on our side this time. We had heavy rain at times, and in the Palm Coast area of Florida, there was construction and an accident, so that slowed us down as well.

 

Even with the added time, it is such an easy drive. I drove through the city of Jacksonville on the way down, and took I-295 around Jacksonville on the way back, I-295 was easier, but longer, if you will be traveling during peak hours, I would suggest I-295.

Take 9A around Jax back to I95. The exit is named Blount Island/Jax Beaches..It is right after the Jax airport exit on I95. Its faster, more scenic and LESS traffic than I95 and 295. It just takes you around the city in the other direction from 295. Right now I95 is all construction through the city and pretty scary sometimes!! :eek:

Just returned from Western 11/17-24/07 and the Rocky Horror Show was on Wednesday night (Roatan) at midnight in the Ebony Lounge.

 

The deck party was also this night on the Lido Deck with Karaoke at 8:00 and at 10:00 with Deck Party Music and fun & games at 11:30 and Mexican Buffet from 11:30-1:00 am

I have sailed twice on glory. Here is the scoop. Arriving at about 930 at the port is a good time. By the time you unload your luggage, park, and get to the door it is around 10 am. You go in and get your carry on luggage scanned. if you take your laptop, make sure it is out of the bag they will request this from you. After that, you go upstairs, fill out your bahamas cards, and wait in line for them to start taking you. usually about a 15 - 20 minute wait. From there, there are a few seating areas, not many, but a few. About 1045, the started letting us on the ship. They must have had a good exit that day.

 

you will proceed to the ship boarding on the deck 3. take the glass elevators up to the deck 9. You will then proceed to the Lido deck and red sail restaruant. They have burgers, hotdogs, fries, salads, fruit, chicken, the deli, and chinese food areas open as well as the pizza. If you drink, get your welcome aboard drink. NO it is not free, but is well worth the money of 6.50. I usually have 2 or 3 of them.

 

About 1 pm, head to your deck and find your cabin. If you like, go to Carnival.com, and pull up Glory deck plans and study the ship.

 

After you have found your cabin, and unloaded your carry on luggage, head back up stairs. I suggest that at 3:30 you go to your cabin, get your life vest, and head toward the muster drill area which is located on the life vest. After muster, if all goes well, you should have time to run your vest back to your cabin, and be on deck by sail away. Make sure you get where the camera man will be to get on the video.

 

After that, explore the ship. By now, you luggage could be delivered to your cabin.

 

The casino will open at 7 pm approxmently. Make sure you read your Caper. Take a highlighter and mark everything you want see and do. If you have teens, ask your room Steward for 2 copies each night. that way, you have one, and so does your child.

 

If you want a quiet place to sit and do nothing and not have anyone bother you, go to deck 3 and go out on deck. So peaceful out there.

 

In St. Thomas, you will have to go through immigration before disembarking for the day. But it is not that bad. They just look at your passport, and scan your card, and you are free to go then.

 

Wear comfortable shoes NOT new shoes. :eek: My DD had blisters on her feet by Wednesday due to her shoes. Eventhough she was told to take comfy shoes. She insisted on wearing heels, and then paid for it.

 

the hot tub under the slide is not as hot as the others. And the slide is a Blast.

 

Don't forget to get your special drink cups. One of the smoke stacks, and one that looks like a monkey made out of a coconut.

 

Kids club :rolleyes: my DD did not care for. However, Club02, she loved. She actually wants to go back soon, but we can't.

We had a wonderful time. There were a few highlights...

 

My mom (76) ziplining in Roatan,

 

Mom being picked as the Grandma for the Welcome Aboard Show, that was hilarious,

 

Booking an 8A and with the past guest discount having an 8B Balcony and then about a month later receiving a call asking if we wanted a Cat 11 Suite. We were in room 7250 & 7248.

 

I'll be writing a review soon.

Sushi is just past the coffee shop by the casino. It is open from 5:30 pm till 8.

We like the sushi and DH and I have a ritual of stopping every night for a snack before dressing for our late dinner and sitting and people watching all the early eaters. People that think they are sushi connoisseurs are usually disappointed because there is no sashimi and it is more like california rolls, etc... Everything is made fresh and the two gentlemen behind the counter are very happy to answer questions. It lined up a bit on Liberty because now they place your selections on the plate for you instead of you picking them up yourself. Regular and low-salt soy sauce, ginger, wasabi and chopsticks are available.

This past march we were on the Pride and the first night in the casino they had three dollar table games, blackjack and the like. Do they do this on the Glory?

On glory it is on Deck 5, open from about 6-8 I believe. Maybe not that long. Personally, I could do without that stuff. It stinks, and well, just the thought of it makes me sick.

Thanks, JeanG, for the reply. The bottom set of windows, right ? My TA assured me this is a good placement. We are in the beginning of the midde third of the ship. on the starboard side.

You're TA should have asked for your requested dining time. You will find out your actual time and table number when you check in. It will be on your S&S card.

 

If you're not happy with the arrangement, there will be a time posted in the Capers to see the MD for a change. If it's possible, the MD will change your time/table.

We sailed on her May 26th 2007 with my ILs and had a great time. Emerald Supper club is a must. Best food ever and plenty of it. Should have tried it more than once. More than worth the $30 charge. Glory is Very big. beautiful and clean. My only compalint (if you can call it one) is it was a little hard to get around especially with 85 y/o inlaws. Some decks dead end and you have to go up or down to get on the other side of the atrium. We also ended up at the wrong dining room once. After a few days you get used to it.

We had adjoing balconies but had to ask the room steward several times to remove the partition. At PC we stayed at Country Inn (very reasonable) and took their shuttle over at 10:30. We were on board by 11:30 and having lumch. You will have a great time!

I loved the Glory, Sailed Eastern in Febuary 2007. St.Maarten is awesome! Buy your alcohol there. Loved the Deli on board, pizza place had the best cesar salads. You have to try the chocolate melting cake in the dining room... was awesome. Also The coffee place had the best mocha cappaccinos. Favorite place on the ship was on the back of the lido deck. We use to sip our coffee and watch the moon reflect on the ocean, and the treads the ship left behind......:)

:) Just finished booking the Carnival Glory for April 26, 2008; The GREAT NEWS is this is our "FREE CRUISE" that we won On the Carnival Conquest in October; We won the cruise raffle. It was not BINGO, it was a raffle ticket drawing; We received a 6A Oceanview cabin; I just received email confirmation with my booking number from the great staff at Carnival Guest Relations. We had to pay the taxes and yes FUEL surcharge, so our total was $171.98. This will be our 11th Carnival cruise; And in case you didn't know, WE ARE VERY EXCITED :) :)

Belize was a dream come true -- several folks from my roll call and I arranged a private tour by boat 25 miles up the New River to the Mayan temples at Lamanai. We enjoyed the views from the boat -- just 9 of us on the tour (maximum of 10). They fed us a nice lunch when we got there then were our tour guides as we explored and climbed temples and took hundreds of pictures!

 

We'll be going 7 people in June and that sounds like a great thing to do. Who did you arrange the tour with?

The Glory is a wonderful ship! I've sailed her twice, most recently in April 06 for my senior year spring break and my friends and I are STILL talking about how much fun we had.

 

We got upgraded from an inside gaurantee to an ocean view which was a nice surprise upon our arrival. Big enough for us three girls to get ready at the same time.

 

We ate in the dining room every night and our waiter- Mario from India- was phenomenonal. One of my friends is a vegan and he went out of his way to make sure that she had plenty of choices at every meal. We also mentioned that we would have liked to have more company at dinner (it was just us 3 at our table) and he immediately scouted out the dining room, found a group of men our age who were also dining alone, and invited them to join our party for the rest of the week. We had a blast!

 

I also had $150 in onboard credit from a previous cruise problem that Carnival credited me with no problem! Spent it all in the casino :)

We stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott (highly recommended), this included free parking for the week, and the spaces were abundant. We took the Cocoa Beach Shuttle to the port the next day for $5 each (must make a reservation before midnight the evening prior).

 

There was also a big parking garage at the pier.

 

Many area hotels offer parking, some free, some have a stay and park package (country inn and suites for instance). This is a nice area and we didn't think twice about leaving our cars there, even my friend who had a brand new 2 week old car.
