All Things Glory...

You can probably get a good idea of the size of the casino from the deck plan. It's a huge ship. I would expect the casino to be large as well.

Speaking of the casino, how's the smoke situation there?

It was so bad on the Fantasy class ships that I couldn't stand it. Of course, that kept me from losing every cent I had, but I do enjoy spending a little time at the slots.

The ventilation on the Miracle was excellent. The smoke only bothered me if there was someone sitting right next to me. I'm hoping Glory has adequate ventilation. Nothing like having asthma on the cruise because of 2nd-hand smoke. :(

Are there recent capers posted anywhere? That will show what parties there are (and there usually are some), and, yes, there's a midnight buffet. At least there are on the other ships so I'm assuming there is on Glory.

Don't know about the pools. The adult-only pool was strickly enforced on Miracle.

I have no idea WHY Carnival doesn't enforce their rules uniformly. Some ships are much, much more lenient in all ways. I'm more a stickler for rules. I figure if they have them, enforce the stupid things!

You know, like no shorts in the dining room, no saving chairs, no kids in the adult pool & spa...

Sounds like Glory is one of the non-enforced ships. With that many people, I wish they would.

I have a couple questions about the Glory too since I didn't see them answered in this thread (if I missed them please forgive me).

Anyway, does anyone know........

1. Does the Glory have any midnight buffets...chocolate or regular food?

Yes there is one midnight gala buffet, second formal night I think but not sure and there was a chocolate buffet one afternoon, last sea day I think.

2. Does the Glory have any deck parties and if so, what are the themes?

Yes there was a deck party, I didn't go so can't tell you what the theme was, Mexican comes to mind though.

3. Is the casino pretty good sized???

That's kind of subjective, I thought it was a good size, picture here taken from the door but I guess it's kinda hard to tell how big it is.

2835139480098466749HhiHcI_th.jpg

The smoke only bothered me if there was someone smoking next to me, there are some non-smoking tables if you play the tables. I didn't find the smoke bothered me as much as it did in the casino on the Legend.

4. Are any of the pools adult only???? Or open 24 hours? (or late?)

Not that I recall. The hot tubs at the aft pool are adult only and I don't recall seeing a whole lot of kids at that pool, kids tend to hang out at the main lido pool where all the action is. One day I noticed a security person keeping a pretty close eye on the aft pools, assuming she was making sure the kids weren't where they shouldn't be. I believe the aft pool is open later but don't think it is 24 hours.

Thanks!!!!!

Holly:D

I'll be on her again April 5 so I'll pay more attention

Did you join the Roll Call? I just did. Not a lot of action over there (appears the majority of people who posted early are not actually sailing on 5/17).

I have some ideas for excursions (some advice from people from my 12/17 Miracle Roll Call group).

Back to the decks...

I think it was in a recent review that someone said there are loungers on the outside promenade deck! If that is true, I'll be very happy.

I haven't seen that since my first 2 cruises and it's one of the things I miss. I like to get away from the pool area crowds.

I realize that deck is where the muster stations are (that was the reason someone gave for there being no chairs). But those decks are wide enough to allow SOME seating (other than the benches that hold the life vests).

Can anyone here confirm that this is the case on Glory? And as to those forward decks in the pix, I was referring not to the very forward deck in the bow (those are crew-only areas), but the couple of decks between the bow and the bridge.

Those appear to be the areas accessible through the Secret Doors. I knew they were there but didn't know if there were chairs. That would also make me very, very happy!

Those decks you are seeing are small ones you can access from doors on cabin decks like Empress 7. There are a couple of wooden benches out there, but no deck chairs. They are quiet and afford a great place to watch as the ship comes into port. But you can take your coffee out there and stand at the rail to just enjoy the view. It's lovely.

Our cabin was one across the front of the ship, and looked out on that small deck. It was billed as ocean view with "partially obstructed view". That was due to the railing. But actually it was very nice. We could see what we wanted to see and had access to the deck.

There are stairs on each side, but the stairs are blocked off below deck 6. I believe the lower decks are for crew.

We went Western Caribbean. The Mayan ruins at Tulum was an enjoyable excursion. I've written a review of this itenerary under the Member Reviews section. It's titled "Glory is Glory-ous". Check it out and perhaps there will be answers to your other questions.

We did stay at Country Inns & Suites, taking their cruise package in which we could leave the car for the duration of the cruise. Shuttles began at 10 AM and ran every half hour. We were on the 10:30 one, and the Carnival folks were ready for us in the terminal even though the ship was late getting into port and passengers were debarking. We were on board quite early, in the first group after those who were b2b passengers.

So enjoy your cruise. It does take awhile to "get" the layout of the ship. Depending on where your cabins are, decks like 7 & 8 run through the length of the ship so you can get to elevators easily once you figure out where you want to be.:)

My TA told me that the Casino in the Glory is the biggest one on any Carnival ship........I'll tell you if it's true on 5/3!

We sailed her 2/2

Casino didn't appear to be any bigger. There is one section of non smoking slots...sandwiched between smoking slots and the sports bar...I guess the smoke is made aware of the rules before boarding. There are non smoking tables too. But honestly, non smoking areas surrounded by smoking areas aren't going to free you of all the smoke..it will only free you of the person sitting next to you smoking.

The Glory appeared to be selective on what rules they did/did not enforce. No drinks in the hot tubs was enforced. Dining room attire was not (at least in the Platinum room).

Customs at St Thomas was not too bad....though the cruise director claimed he would call by decks to go through the line. We waited about 45 min and asked the Purser when he would start calling...we were told we didn't have to wait.

I was confounded about something here...They set up stantions along the Promenade with tape outlining two lanes...one going in to customs and one coming out. It was very clear by the line of people waiting which line was going in and which was going out. Yet there were continually people trying to go in the out line! Are people really that challenged to figure out something so basic? Or do you reckon they figured that was s special line set up just for them?

Some tips we figured out....

1) Cremes Coffee Bar...use the one on the Promeade. There is another extension of it on Deck 9 in the Red Sail Buffet Restaraunt..but the girl running it seemed frazzled and the drinks were not as good.

2) Mojito night...there will be two of them...aske for an extra dash of Sugar Syrup...Initially, they didn't make them quite right. Another couple confirmed this with us

3) Golden Palace theater...the balcony seats beside the stage were great seats...but on the right side the Camp Carnival kids sit...can be noisy. Left side, the view was blocked some by the curtain...don't know why they aren't the same view left to right.

4) Self assist luggage...supposedly, this gets you off faster...yet they were calling floors along with self assist. So why drag your own bags when they will do it for you and you exit the same time as everyone else? There was not a long wait at the carousel either.

Anyway...enjoy your cruise!

Well another person sailing 5/17. Are you on the roll call yet?

I know it varies from cruise to cruise depending on who's on the boat, but to those who have sailed the glory recently, what's the night life like? Is the dance club usually full or is the Karaoke bar the place to be? I've been on different ships and sometimes one place was more popular than the other.

Thanks for those tips! We sail on 5/10 and I was still confused on self assist luggage vs. ...not. Also really appreciate the coffee tip - super important to me :) The day just doesn't start right without it.

We are sailing on the Glory in April - Western Caribbean - our second cruise on this ship and this itinerary.

What I love about this ship.....

- sitting on my balcony early in the morning sipping on a "foo foo" coffee from the Glory's version of Starbucks.

- sitting on the Lido deck sipping a "Kiss on the Lips".

- standing on the upper deck as we sail into a port and watching those on the smaller ships look up at us and point.

- sailing out of Port Canaveral - they definately have their act together, both embarkation and debarktion.

I could go on and on and on - but suffice it to say that I LOVE cruising in general and I LOVE cruising on the GLORY.

Going on the Glory in a few weeks. What is a "Kiss on the Lips"? Have not heard of it before.

I almost decided to cancel. I'm so busy that I don't know how I'm going to get my excursions booked and my pre-cruise trip planned. And the money situation is not good.

Then I decided that NOT taking a vacation after tax season last year was exactly WHY I was so burned out and never recovered.

So I'm still going. I'll worry about the bills later! That's the American Way, isn't it?

:D

Thanks for the info, Cobra!

DJPaul - nice to meet you! DD (who will be 22 by the time we sail) is also interested in the nightlife. Truth is, her dear old mom can out-drink and out-party her, but I try to not let her know about that, too much!

1 - 1 1/2 oz peach schnapps

4 - 6 oz frozen mango mix

1 tbsp grenadine

And they are sooooo good.

"kiss on the lips" sounds sooooo yummy!!! Will have to have some on board. Planning and packing for a cruise is fun for me too, soooooo maybe it would be so much more fun if I made some at home to drink while I planned for our cruise????

I however do not know what frozen mango mix is??? Can someone please help me with that???

Is there any texas holdem on this ship? Last cruise was on Holland America and they had a poker room that started at 8pm or so. I was a nice place to hang out at night.

Yes, there is Texas Hold Em on th Glory, I just can't remember if it was the table with the dealer or the video. You could ask here http://www.oceanplayersclub.com/Default.aspx

Texas Hold'em on the Glory is via the automated video table. It's located far forward on the center-starboard side of the casino.

Don't know what the rake is, but the table had 3-5 slots full every time I walked by.

We'll be on the Glory 3/5 and wondering if we need a bungee cord to hold the door open. Lately we've been on ships with sliding doors so please let me know if a bungee cord is needed. I already did a search and couldn't find any answer to this relative to the Glory.

Also any fifties kind of dancing anywhere? I know several years ago on the Spirit, they had nice dancing music in the pay restaurant even if you weren't eating there you could participate. Any lounge with dancing? Thank you.

Which dining rooms have which dining times ? Doesn't 1 dining room have more sides with windows than the other ?

Platinum Dining Room is located aft. It has windows portside, starboardside and aft. Dining times are 5:45 PM and 8:00 PM.

Golden Dining Room is located midship. It has windows portside and starboardside. Dining times are 6:15 PM and 8:30 PM.

Has it stopped snowing yet on the Cape? Just got back in from shoveling 8 to 9 in., and it's still snowing.

I need another cruise.

Jerry
