newcruisemom Posted November 21, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2007 Hi - I'd like to know how to handle tips on the cruise. Are they automatically billed on your Sea Pass in the amounts recommended in the cruise book or do you pay as you go? Thanks for your input! sagiv666 Posted November 21, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 21, 2007 Hi - I'd like to know how to handle tips on the cruise. Are they automatically billed on your Sea Pass in the amounts recommended in the cruise book or do you pay as you go? Thanks for your input! When my wife and I cruised on the Radiance last September, not only were we given suggested amonts to tip, but also we were offered the opportunity to charge these to our account. Some people suggest they would prefer to be more personal and give the money to their attendants, etc. The waiters and all you tip like the option to charge their tips to your account: my waiter told me that once a passenger asked him for his address and told him he would send the tip to him, as he lost all his $$$ in the Casino. Whether this was true op just an excuse to avoid tipping, the alternative offered by the ship removes this excuse, as you can settle your account by credit card or by check (?). Moreover, for those who still are far from home, the added $$$ we have available is appreciated, in case of emergencies or unexpected surprises. When when we chose to charge our tips, we were given cards and envelopes for each letting them know their gratuities had been charged. This also gave us a chance to add money additional to what the ship withheld, and indicated to the attendants, etc. our appreciation for their service during the cruise.:)
petesweet Posted November 21, 2007 #3 Share Posted November 21, 2007 SAGIV666 - Thanks for answering OP so thoroughly. I had prepared a long answer and it didn't "take." I was too tired to go through it again, but I'm glad her request was not ignored.
Albert Ross Posted November 21, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 21, 2007 Hi - I'd like to know how to handle tips on the cruise. Are they automatically billed on your Sea Pass in the amounts recommended in the cruise book or do you pay as you go? Thanks for your input! Three ways: 1. Prepay them when you pay for your cruise 2. Arrange for them to be added to your SeaPass Account 3. Pay cash on the last night Either way you will get addressed envelopes in your room on the last night - if you have selected option 1 or 2 you will also get a sheet of vouchers - perforated - each one preprinted for the person you tip - put the vouchers in the correct envelopes and hand envelope to appropriate person. If you selected option 3 then put cash in the envelope instead. The 4 people you tip are your room steward, your waiter and asst waiter and the head waiter. You do not pay as you go. gerif Posted November 21, 2007 #5 Share Posted November 21, 2007 The only "pay as you go" tips you would need would be for room service ($2-$5 depending on how much is ordered) and if you wished to give additional tips for drinks (15% is automatically added). Oh, and for porters at the pier.

Oh, and for porters at the pier. Tipping room service is what ever amount you wish, there are no guidelines tipping the staff on the last night has suggested guidelines which they will tell you when they leave you envelopes to use for each crew member you tip

If you order wine at dinner, don't you also tip the wine steward?
cruisePRN Posted November 22, 2007 #10 Share Posted November 22, 2007 If you order wine at dinner, don't you also tip the wine steward? There will automatically be a 15% tip on the bar bill so you have tipped.
