Money spent on board!

Ive been on 3 cruises and my fiance has been on 5... I am 23 and he is 25..... and all of our past cruises were with our parents/family members.. (basically... our parents paid the way)

We are sailing on the Valour on Dec 9th!

Now that we are on our own and on a bit of a budget(especially with the Holidays approaching) I am trying to figure out how much money we really will be spending on board.. We will DEFINETLY be drinking everynight... and we plan on doing a little shopping here and there. We don't gamble.. yet we might try out the slot machines here and there. He is more interested in shopping at the ports of call yet, I love shopping on the boat. I've already decided that I will wait until the last day of the cruise to purchase anything because thats when everything goes on sale. Our shore excursions are already booked and paid in full.. so I am thinking about setting our sign and sail account at a $900 limit. This should be enough.. what do you all think? $450 per person for the 7 days... do you all think this is enough?? I know Carnival has a minimum $200 per person but that seems to be too little..

does anyone have any opinions? How much did everyone spend????

tips are $10 a day per person. Drinking figure another $80 a day for a few drinks each. that would be about 5 drinks each. then whatever else you buy, spa etc on the ship.

We pre-order liquor into our cabin thru bon voyage, but we still get drinks up on deck. But there are lots of other ways to spend a lot of money. Bingo is $20 each time, pictures are about $15 each (i never remember what pictures cost exactly, but at least $15 I think) We do gamble, but that isn't on our s&s account. We buy liquor and cigarettes from the ship to take home. If you go to the spa, that adds up too.

Sometimes we've gotten off the ship with only a $700 bill for two of us, other times it's been double that. It all depends on what you do.

Just make what you do fit your budget.

Have fun!

I always figure on at least $100.00/day for onboard charges. This includes, tips, drinks, photos, shore tours and shopping. I have come to this figure based on 42 cruises. But that is just me. YOU, on the other hand may spend a little differently.

We are about your age (25 & 26), and have the same spending habits! We took $450 per person, but only ended up spending about $400 per person and that was with a lot of drinking! We prepaid all of our excursions, but we still took $100 per port. We came back with a lot of that. Anyway, with $900 for your onboard account I don't think you'll feel like you are on a budget at all! We didn't! Have a great time!

Can someone explain all the money spent n pics. Am i going to be asked to stand and smile so they can try to sell me photos ???

bon voyage, can we buy booze by the bottle, perhaps baileys ??

for photos there are stations set up with different back grounds. You do not have to stand there for your photo. there will be a line if you want your pic taken.

Getting off the ship in each port --again there will be photographers out and about.

Any photos taken there is no one pushing you to buy any.

--

you can not buy bottles on the ship for consumption in the cabin. whatever you buy on the ship they will hold until the last night

The 8 x 10 embarkation photo we had taken on the 10/30 Miracle cruise was $21.95. In the past all embarkation photos were 6 x 8's and fit their photo books. I was not happy about the price and was told they could make a 6 x 8 AFTER we bought the 8 x 10:mad:. I told them forget it, and purchased NO pictures.

We went on our 1st cruise the tips were already paid when we booked our cruise. We also bought drink coupons that cost us $117 for 24 drinks. Our bill was $540.00 and that was for 7 days. That inculded $80 for the supper club some bingo, Drinks, Pitures and gifts from the shops. We had $200 cash per day for the casino and for ports and came home with $700.00. I would not do the supper club it was to fancy for us and we enjoyed the food in the dinning room. Have fun!!!

You call the bon voyage dept and order it and it will be in your cabin when you embark. It's a wonderful service.

just do a search here for bon voyage dept and the posts with the number will come up. I don't remember it offhand, sorry.

I'm doing that myself right now to switch my order to a different ship :)

Wow, now I feel cheap. LOL I put $300 on my card for me and came home with $154 of that. That was including the $10 a day tip for 5 days.

It all depends on how you like to spend I guess. I don't like to spend money and I'm not a big drinker, I suppose that helps.

Even with spending so little, I still had an awesome time!!! :D

Good for you! :D I wish I had "control" like that. I seem to be drawn to the spa area.....:)

Bring your own liquor, or at least some liquor, take your own pictures. Any one would be happy to take your picture with your camera. We still buy drinks and beer at the bar, but enjoy a martini while we are getting ready for dinner. We still usually spend a $1000 for the week. We also have a bottle of wine in the DR every night. If you don't finish it the waiter will bring it out the next night. If you can afford it and like eating, do not miss the supper club.

i figured that carnival took the last bit of profit from me in the form of a fuel surcharge. i am not angry at the fuel prices, just at how they implemented the "surcharge". i will not be charging anything, nor will i let carnival charge me any tips.

so carnival cant screw their employees, the tips will be handed directly to those people that provide services. i dont want carnival to have any other chance to take any more of my money. they were able to get over on me by forcing the "fuel charge". that is the last time. if my girlfriend and friends werent so dead set on going on this particular cruise, i would have cancelled 2 weeks ago.

it just leaves extra money to buy more drinks on shore at more reasonable prices.

i know it wont make a bit of difference to carnival, but my conscience will be clear. if my friends decide to pay them anything extra, that is their decision

We're kind of close to your age (29), but we have similar spending habits. We plan on a little over $100/day for our shipboard account. In May on our 4-day, our S&S bill came out to $460 for the 2 of us. In October on the Liberty for 8 days, it was $1012. On the Fantasy by myself, it was around $400.

To focus on the Liberty, this included our tips ($160), a $50 casino charge, about $75-$100 in gift shop purchases, $20 for the walk for the cure, $35 in liquor, and about $150-$200 in pictures. We smuggled some liquor on, but we were still ordering the drinks like they were water. We did not get soda cards.

For us, around $60/pp/day seems to be the approximate balance. And I drank like a fish on the Liberty, especially those $7 martinis. :o

One area you can really go overboard on (or not) is pictures. The first couple of cruises I went on, I was really frugal with the Carnival-taken pictures and only bought a couple of them. However, as we've been on more cruises, I will actually look for photographers and make sure that we get pictures made, and then I buy them. Having said that, DH and I have been married 17 years, and because I'm usually taking the pictures with our camera, the two of us are rarely in a picture together. Therefore, the "professional" pictures taken by Carnival are worth the extra money to me.

Bottom line - this is an easy way to curtail expenses. If you just don't go to the photo gallery, you won't be tempted to buy the pictures.

Have a great trip!

We are the opposite of Rock- Our first cruise we spent a lot of money on pictures - for one the people selling them will tell you they cant be copied. (they can-) they tell you that by copying the photos the word carnival will be seen throughtout the photo (it wont)

Now when we cruise in the past we buy the embarkation photo since it has the date and ship on it and one formal photo.

Last cruise we did not buy any photos as the price went up and the sizes are bigger- i dont need all those 8/10's

#1 - Have a great time.

#2 - Please let us know how the budget thing works out. (never works for us)

#3 - No matter what you read be sure to pack a good attitude and you will have a great time. (see #1)

Does that included any kind of drink, like Pina Colodas and Margaritas?
