Photos for the record books; no less than 7 ships in Miami today following their delayed return thanks to Frances…I never imagined they would fit these heavyweights in all at once...

Facination, Imagination, Paradise (her last port visit in Miami as she is off to the west coast and stripped of her non-smoking venue), Majesty of The Seas, Explorer of the Seas and Navigator of the Seas…an estimated 14,500 passengers off and another 14,500 boarding or close to 30,000 transient passengers…!!! Miami is still the cruise capital of the WORLD - and here comes IVAN...

Both RCI and Carnival had their ships that normally leave from and return to Port Canaveral, return to Miami, as Port Canaveral will not re-open until Sept. 8. That's why there are so many ships in Miami.

Maybe that many passengers got off those ships.........but I bet none were over 3/4 full leaving....It's sad when you think about, all those people looking forward to their vacations and everyone having to cancel becaue they couldn't get there.

Wow, that's a lot of ships. Nice photos! One tiny nitpicky thing--I assume the heading on the photo pages should be "labor day" rather than "memorial day". :)

Yeap - rush to post - correction is on the the way (memorial day) and by the way,

IMSULIN: all of these ships depart regularly from Miami - I see them in and out every week but they due to the port closure until this am, there was you could say, gridlock...however, the Paradise is on her way to the west coast...ships that sailed out of port everglades will be returning tomorrow...

Maybe the first time in history that I AM GLAD that I am not cruising this next week. I can only imagine the mess at the airports and the cruise terminals today. Thanks for the info.

Where did you hear that Port Canaveral was not opening until September 8th? I would love to hear more abou the damage the port took.

The pic with the ships lined up is really fantastic. I think Memorial Day was really the correct title for this one. This was truly a memorial to just a small piece of the havoc Frances brought with her. I can't imagine the workload on the taxi's, fuel tankers, suppliers and pier personnel with this many ships in port.

Great pics, I was surprised to see that sailboat coming so close to the big ships. I'm sure a Coast Guard boat was somewhere getting ready to turn them back...When we were on Majesty in Dec. they weren't allowed to get anywhere near the ships...
