bringing alcohal onboard

Recommended Posts

I just don't get why we have a CC board "Super Moderator" going around telling folks that you're allowed to bring on as much wine as you want, as long as you plan to drink it in your cabin. Ummm . . . sorry, but that's just wrong. You very well might get away with bringing some on, and you might even have a Stewart who'd be more than happy to accommodate you with wine glasses, etc. But RCI policy is that alcohol is not to be brought onboard. Enforcement may vary by ship, but not the policy.

Steward.... just correcting your only error.... ;)

Alexis, this person is a troll. Go back and read what posts have not been deleted. You can bet that they have at least one other screen name here on CC. Just ignore it and you will be better off.

I know that now and had posted it on here in the Muster Drill thread before I was even warned from you nice guys. ;)

I had not read the past posts before I answered them. Then I decided to dig a little deeper. Interesting reading to say the least. The first one is a disgrace. Trust me I do not plan on answering the "charming person again". :D

Thanks for all the warning.

I am afraid I kind of just do my own thing on here and don't pay much attention to what is going on all over the boards. I had better start. :D

Thanks for watching over me. ;)

we were on RCI last week and brought on several bottles of wine.. we were told we could bring on as much as we wanted for consumption in our cabin and they would provide setups ..

we brought on 6 bottles of wine.. 3 in checked luggage and 3 in carry ons..

we had no problem bringing it on.. and some were right out in the open in a canvas bag we carried on.. no smuggling there.. we were told by several people, including a head waiter that you can bring it on board but only for in cabin consumption...

So, you are telling me that the rule is ship by ship? How did you find out? Bring alcohol to the dock, call the HW and he gave you permission?

It's kinda hard to believe......

i've been reading a bunch of threads about bringing wine aboard (and other booze) and i have yet to find a single post from anyone who says that s/he has had wine confiscated from his/her checked luggage.

plenty of posts claiming knowledge of others, and some who had or saw stuff confiscated from carry-on, (plus the usual posts berating posters for daring to consider smuggling ) but none from anyone who 'lost' wine from checked luggage.

we're considering another cruise, we're considering rccl, and we drink wine that's better than what's usually offered aboard ship. we're happy to pay a corkage fee, but are not happy to pay inflated prices for less-than-stellar wines.

anyone?

The question you have to ask yourself is:

If my wine is confiscated, can I just shrug it off and go on with my cruise and enjoy myself?

If your answer is an honest "yes", then smuggle away. If "no", don't take the risk.

Security may inspect containers (water bottles, soda bottles, mouthwash, luggage etc.) and will dispose of containers holding alcohol. Guests who violate any alcohol policies, (over consume, provide alcohol to people under age 21, demonstrate irresponsible behavior, or attempt to conceal alcoholic items at security and or luggage check points or any other time), may be disembarked or not allowed to board, at their own expense, in accordance with our Guest Conduct Policy. Guests under the age of 21 will not have alcohol returned to them.

i couldnt see them kicking anyone off for this. if anything they would want you on there more. they know you plan on doing some drinking, and now you HAVE to buy it from them. not to mention all the money they would lose if you werent there giving it away at the casino or buying pictures.

Just sailed Enchantment, and successfully smuggled not only 3 bottles of wine, but friends of ours brought 2 18 packs of beer, and another friend brought a new bottle vodka. Absolutely no problems whatsoever. If they did scan the luggage, they must have just let it slide, because there is no way they would have missed the 18 packs of beer. We drank the wine in cabin only, and even ordered two more bottles with dinner ($40 each, for wine I could have gotten at home for $18 per bottle).

Sailed with a small group on Enchantment in May, we were the ONLY ones in the group who didn't smuggle because I was too chicken. Let me tell you, those people brought some serious bottles of liquor, and every single one of them made it through. They were nice enough to share. :p

I've seen quite a few posts in similar threads, where people said they did not get their checked luggage delivered in a timely fashion, and were eventually called down to the "naughty room" to claim their bags, after the alcohol had been removed from them.

I think Merion_Mom has it right, though. If you're going to try to sneak something on, just be prepared to have it taken away, if you get caught. Personally, I would avoid the "tricks" people suggest of hiding it in soda or Listerine bottles. I just think, if they ever do decide to really crack down and make an example out of someone, it'll be someone hiding it like that, where it's obvious that they new it was not allowed and they were trying to conceal it to sneak it in, anyway. If it's something in it's original bottle, I can't see them ever doing more than confiscating it.

I hear RCCI checks these boards.........and then there is the meet & mingle you can sign up for on ship and you put in your screen name....I wonder if they are making a list and checking it twice!!!

:D

I seriously doubt that RCI has the desire, or the manpower to check CC for posters looking to smuggle, compare screen names, look up meet and mingle lists, etc...

That's what I was wondering about!! I am not a wine drinker and my husband loves his beer;)
