nycragazza21 Posted December 6, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 6, 2007 Does anyone know if it's nice in Hawaii in October. I am going on Pride of America Oct 11 2008. It's my honeymoon and I hope that we encounter nice weather.
hawaiilvr Posted December 6, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 6, 2007 Generally speaking, October is a great month in Hawaii. It is hard to predict weather that far out. I went on the PofAm on November 10th and the weather was perfect. You can go to the Weather Channel's website and check the history of each city the ship visits and it will give you rainfall and temperature averages. nycragazza21 Posted December 6, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted December 6, 2007 Just curious I only been on one cruise and that was Royal Adventure of the Seas, they had a mall which had a cafe with cakes, cookies etc. Does pride of amer have that and is it included in your fare? Thanks. Also just curious, no casinos, right?
Rare ohioNCLcruiser Posted December 6, 2007 #4 Share Posted December 6, 2007 The weather in Oct in Hawaii is great! The ship has no casino Hawaii doesn't allow it.
jaybird from SC Posted December 11, 2007 #5 Share Posted December 11, 2007 Does anyone know if it's nice in Hawaii in October. I am going on Pride of America Oct 11 2008. It's my honeymoon and I hope that we encounter nice weather. we sailed this past Oct. 12th and our weather was wonderful-cool the first couple of days out of San Diego (to be expected) but all in all no problems with the weather. beachchick Posted December 11, 2007 #6 Share Posted December 11, 2007 To get info on Pride of America, you might want to read some of the member reviews and better yet, read the CC ship review. It will list all of the amenities, including food and drink options. As AOS and PoAm are ships from two different cruise lines, you can expect many differences in design and amenities. In fact, PoAm is a one-of-a-kind ship. October is a fabulous month to visit, but the weather has no guarantees. It will almost certainly rain at some point during your cruise because Hawaii is tropical and it rains somewhere in the islands pretty much every day of the year. You're unlikely to have rain all the time or a huge Kona storm like they've been having the past couple of weeks. Congratulations. beachchick
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 11, 2007 #7 Share Posted December 11, 2007 We were in Hawaii in October and had wonderful weather but just like anywhere weather can easily vary by day or year over year. Keith
cruisy-suzy Posted December 13, 2007 #8 Share Posted December 13, 2007 The weather was beautiful for our PoAm cruise Oct. 20! It was a bit warmer than usual, highs around 88 to 90 degrees. The weather should be in the 80's during the day. It will probably rain some. We didn't have much rain during our cruise. On PoAm, there is a coffee bar in the atrium lobby (they had a limited selection of pastries for sale), and a shopping area with several stores. And no casino. Happy cruising, Suzy
judyf Posted December 14, 2007 #9 Share Posted December 14, 2007 Weather for us was okay the end of Oct. early Nov. we had rain in Kauai both days but locals said it was not the norm. I would go in Oct. again.
cruising forever Posted December 19, 2007 #10 Share Posted December 19, 2007 We were also in Hawaii on a cruise during early October a few years back; weather was fabulous and nice and warm...........only rained while we were in Hilo, but then again, that was where the rainforest was! travel girl23 Posted December 19, 2007 #11 Share Posted December 19, 2007 Does anyone know if it's nice in Hawaii in October. I am going on Pride of America Oct 11 2008. It's my honeymoon and I hope that we encounter nice weather. We were on Maui for a week this past October (on a land vacation) and the weather was wonderful. We did have 1/2 day of rain the day we drove the Road to Hana but once we got to Hana, the sun came out and the afternoon was beautiful. That was the only rain we had the entire week. Other than that, the weather was beautiful. Travelgirl
beachchick Posted December 20, 2007 #12 Share Posted December 20, 2007 We were also in Hawaii on a cruise during early October a few years back; weather was fabulous and nice and warm...........only rained while we were in Hilo, but then again, that was where the rainforest was! In general and just as a point of information, the windward (east) sides of all the islands have more rain and more rain-forest-like conditions (Iao Valley and the road to Hana on Maui and the entire east and north part of Kauai, etc.) than the leeward (west) sides (the Kohala coast of the BI, etc.). In fact, Kauai is the island with the wettest spot on earth (I think it's on earth). There will almost certainly be some rain at some time during any visit. On the whole, October is an excellent month to visit because the air temps are slightly cooler than the midst of summer (all temps being relative) and the water temps are at their warmest; the rainier season (December through March usually) hasn't started, but there is usually enough moisture to keep things nice and fresh. The tradewinds usually keep the islands nice all year and keep the humidity at comfortable levels. (OTOH, one September my DH and I were on Oahu and Maui for a couple of weeks. We just happened to hit one of those times when the trades "take a break" and the air temps soar. It was close to 100 degrees with almost no wind for about 5 days. That was less than great for us, but fortunately, the brief afternoon showers on the windward side in Kailua really helped, so did spending hours in the warm, but "cooling" ocean waters.) For us, October through November and April through May are the absolutely ideal times to visit. OTOH, we like Hawaii any time of the year.:D beachchick
DonahCBrown Posted December 21, 2007 #13 Share Posted December 21, 2007 Living here full time, except when we're cruising, I have to agree with beachchick about the best times to be here - Sept. Oct. are great - warm water, cooler air temps, the Aloha Festivals in Sept. -downside, IMHO, to Oct. on the Big Island is Ironman - or as I call it 'Invasion of the Zero Body Fat People' - but other than that, pretty ideal. Spring- April/May is also great - although the water will be cooler. Both are 'shoulder' seasons, with lower airfares, lower hotel prices, easier to book rental cars, etc.
