Is Chops worth it?

The thread below about whether or not Portofino was worth it was very helpful so I thought I'd get the same info on Chops.

We're on Serenade over New Year's week, with our 3 teenagers.

Two of us like steak if it's really good quality (Morton's, Ruth Chris, like that). One of our DD likes ANY steak. One DD somewhat tolerates steak but prefers chicken or pasta. One DD is a vegetarian.

Maybe DH, carnivore DD and I should go to Chops, and send barely-tolerant DD and vegetarian DD to Windjammer that night? They're nearly 17; they can go on their own. (Really. We've gone to AI resorts with them and I've observed closely to make sure that they are well-behaved.)

Or should we all skip it? Or should we all go? How good is it?

We were on the Jewel Thanksgiving cruise and I can tell you that Chops was fantastic. We had some issues in the main dining room and I was very disappointed with the steaks and the removal of lobster from the menu for the entire cruise. ( We were told that Royal had removed lobster from all ships menus )

Chops steaks and service were GREAT and you will not be disappointed. DW and I both had the 10 oz filet and they were cooked to perfection and just melted in you mouth.

If we knew we would have so many issues with service in the main dining room, we would have booked Chops every night. Also beware; they were almost completely reserved for the entire cruise by the first night of sailing.

Have a great time

OP here, checking in. We've just returned from Serenade and ate at Chops once and Portofino once. Both were really lovely. We brought all 3 teens both nights and enjoyed having a lovely, real restaurant experience even if one of our girls didn't eat. (At Chops, were she ate absolutely nothing, they didn't charge for her. At Portofino, she ate a dish of plain pasta and they did charge for her.)

We, too, enjoy the steakhouses you mentioned...Chops was close, but not quite as good, IMO. However, it does give you a HUGE quantity of food!

Portofino has steak, too, if someone doesn't want the Italian fare and you want to dine as a family.

We went to Chops with another couple who was cruising with us, the husband does not like steak, I think he had a crabcake?? The rest of us loved our steaks and the sides are just as great. Of course, the dessert is always what we remember!!
