Air connection in Auckland

On a flight from Sydney to LAX connecting in Auckland, is 1 hour layover enough time for this connection? Freedom Air from Sydney to Auckland with AirNewZealand from Auckland to LAX so not sure of location of arrival/departure gates to each other. Thanks.

Kia ora,

Our experiemce with Air NZ & Qantas is that they won't book you on a connecting flight unless there is at least an hour & a half between scheduled arrival & departure. In view of the possibility for delay I would be uneasy with just an hours difference.

Auckland airport is very small so you will have no trouble finding the gate lounge for departure. The only risk would be that Freedom air arrived too late either for the transfer of luggage or you missed the actual plane. As you will be in transit, you will not have to go through immigration which will save you a lot of time.

Definitely check with Air New Zealand. If the booking was not done separately you should be fine. No room for any delays ;)

If you were booked on this connection in a single booking, rather than it being two bookings tacked on end-to-end, then you will be fine.

In any event, when are you flying? The Freedom Air brand is being withdrawn at the end of March 2008, with all those services being taken back under the mainline Air New Zealand brand. So if your flight is after that, it's going to be an Air New Zealand -> Air New Zealand connection anyway.

Both flights will be at the international terminal, and at most you'd only have to clear security in between. I don't know how stable the gate allocations are at Auckland, but most airports outside the US allocate gates to flights dynamically, so you wouldn't know the precise gates to be used until quite close to the flight time anyway,
