cpristash Posted September 12, 2004 #26 Share Posted September 12, 2004 WE have sailed the Sun/Dawn/ Sea..... actually the SUn twice.....The Sun wins our vote as we like the size as wellas the staff. The Dawn was way way to large for our liking. We sailed her over The EAster Holiday a few years ago and their were way too many people. The staff had a difficult time keeeping up and we felt thatg service was not at it's best.
herb Posted September 13, 2004 #27 Share Posted September 13, 2004 Very interesting. It almost seems as if NCL ships are REALLY good or REALLY not good :)
shoreguy Posted September 14, 2004 Author #28 Share Posted September 14, 2004 Very interesting. It almost seems as if NCL ships are REALLY good or REALLY not good :) Not exactly. I think they are really different. There is a loyal group that loves the Majesty but might hate the Dawn.
The Scotsman Posted September 14, 2004 #29 Share Posted September 14, 2004 Had the most fantastic cruise on the Sky a few years back, then had a great back to back cruise on the Dawn, then had a good cruise (not great but still enjoyable) on the Sky this year. Taking all in I liked the Dawn the best, an ideal size (for us) lots to do but not so huge that you can't find your way around or are swamped with the number of passengers on sea days. Good post to let people see the problems encountered by the POA are (were) ship specific and not a fleet wide situation.

Lisa63 Posted September 18, 2004 #31 Share Posted September 18, 2004 We love Norwegian Majesty. We love the size of the ship, and nothing beats those wonderful window seats on Deck 5. I could sit there all day. :)
Another Cruise Addict Posted September 19, 2004 #32 Share Posted September 19, 2004 nothing beats those wonderful window seats on Deck 5. This is true. I even fell alseep in one during a sea day. The sun shining in and the waves passing by were hypnotic.
coka Posted September 19, 2004 #33 Share Posted September 19, 2004 I selected the Sun because I helped name her! Still, there is something special about each of the NCL ships: Sun: Ports-of-call, the salon and DJ Duane Wind: Fabulous outdoor barbecues Sea: Great casino and pool atmosphere Majesty: Fun disco Sky: late night pizza, er, early morning pizza escapades Norway: Oh my my, probably the wildest cruise I have ever been on! Leeward: Everyone knew everyone Coka
lawofraven Posted September 20, 2004 #34 Share Posted September 20, 2004 After sailing on larger ships, DH and I were concerned about sailing on the Dream. I loved it!! So much so we are planning on going again and taking my mother and oldest son. The itinerary is perfect and leaving from New Orleans is a big bonus. I just liked the more intimate feel of the ship. When we were on the Dawn it was so big that us and our friends traversed the ship several times just looking for something to do. But on the Dream the action is all centralized. I liked the Dawn but thought the Sun was a nicer ship (just a lousy cruise for other reasons). Best thing about the Sea was the Gatsby's Martini bar but Someone told me it is now a wine bar and revenovated to make room for Le Bistro, is this true? That's your son and your mother...do I only have to pay 1/4? Ahhhh, I knew that wouldn't fly. Actually, because the question was about the ship, I'd vote for the Dawn. More to do, and more veggie options. I liked the crew better on the Dream, though -- probably because it was smaller and I got to know them better. Also found my old bartender from the Sun a couple years back on that Dream cruise, which was really cool. Even better was that he recognized me first. Maybe I spend too much time in bars? ;-p

Believe me we do spend time donating money to the bar as well as the casino but for us we bar hop so much we never really get to know anyone. One time we did fall in love with a particular cocktail waitress, well DH certainly did. It seemed every place we went we ran into her. DH drank more than his normal amount just in hopes of seeing her one more time. LOL NMNita

hogwildcruzers Posted October 17, 2004 #39 Share Posted October 17, 2004 past cruises on NCL have been on the Sky when it she did Alaska, the Wind last Oct. and we will be on the Dream this Oct 31. Best was the Sky but the Wind was not bad. I did like the cozyiness of the Wind. But then again I have liked all the ships I have cruised on.
btown Posted October 22, 2004 #40 Share Posted October 22, 2004 I've sailed on the Sky, the Dawn and the Majesty. The Dawn was by far the best in all aspects. The Sky was good and the Majesty was what it was. Not to say I wouldn't take the Majesty again.
Tomct Posted November 4, 2004 #41 Share Posted November 4, 2004 We've been on the Star once, the Dawn twice, and currently booked for the Dawn 10 day and the Majesty next summer. We liked the Star over the Dawn by a hair, same ship, just a couple minor differences we noted, though they may have changed by now. We loved everything about them, from service, food, cleanliness, entertainment, friendly staff, you name it!!
cruzholic Posted November 7, 2004 #42 Share Posted November 7, 2004 I have a tie vote. We loved the Windward BEFORE she was stretched. Her sports bar and entire staff were just exceptional. However, in more recent years, I have to vote for the Dawn. Looking forward to sailing on her again next October 30, 2005.
Bequia Posted December 5, 2004 #43 Share Posted December 5, 2004 We're sailing on the Sun on New Years Day. We chose her based on your (cruise critic) posts. Rarely has a bad word been spoken of the Sun. Additionally, the latest CDC report was the clincher. :D We'll let you know if we made the right decision when we return. ;)
Nan1 Posted December 8, 2004 #44 Share Posted December 8, 2004 Sailed on the Dream years ago before she was stretched. Absolutely loved the ship. Best dining room I have seen - the intimate terraced one on the stern of the ship - can't recall name. Crew was great. Also loved the small, pool on one of the middle decks - much nicer than the crowded top deck pools on most ships.

mrtractor Posted December 18, 2004 #48 Share Posted December 18, 2004 .....Spirit, our next cruise, is holding it's own against other NCL ships. This poll is skewed towards the Dawn, the "flagship" sailing out of New York in particular. But also against the Sun and Star, both of whom have been sailing in the North American market for some time now. The Spirit on the other hand has only been here a short time but seems to be developing a nice following! WhoooooooooHOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! MrTractor<--------------is starting to get psyched about the Spirit in January!!!!!!!
rjshulman Posted December 23, 2004 #49 Share Posted December 23, 2004 We're leaving on Sat. for the Sun. Last cruise was with Silversea, and I have set my expectations for this cruise... I thought appropriately. I'm glad to read all the kudos given to the Sun. Looking forward to a great trip.
hannahsdad Posted January 3, 2005 #50 Share Posted January 3, 2005 I have been on the Star, Dream and Sky and will miss the Sky the most. she had the most elegant and yet simple decor and the friendliest atmosphere..but now that she is gone...I would have to say the Star...
