Daphna101 Posted December 30, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 30, 2007 Has anyone been to Split Croatia? Can you advise what you did there as far as excursions, or private tours? Thank you. Daphna
katisdale Posted December 30, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2007 Yes, we were in Split in November, 2007. Our ship was only there from about 7 to 2 PM so we did not get the full range of tours. The ship is very close to diocletian's palace a world heritage site and most of the cruisers went there either just walking or taking a Princess "walking" tour. The same thing as doing it by yourself but with a guide. We did not do either of these things but walked outside the port and watched the ferries load and leave. If you are in port longer there is a Croatian National Park which is worth visiting but we did not have time for that. A few people went to the small town of Trogrir and spoke well of that excursion. MercedMike Posted December 30, 2007 #3 Share Posted December 30, 2007 We took the ship's Dalmatian Countryside tour. Had a nice bus ride up into the mountains to a little restaurant, and sampled local ham, cheese, olives and wine with a little band. After that we returned to the city for the walking tour of Diocletian's palace. Check out our review and pics at http://www.elite.net/~thehalls/holyland3.html Have a GREAT cruise! Rare taxatty Posted December 30, 2007 #5 Share Posted December 30, 2007 We took the Princess tour of a bus trip to Trogir (a pleasant stop with a pretty waterfront and a nice church) followed by a walking tour of Split. The guide was very good. Very worthwhile and reasonable in price as an introduction to the area. Les
Daphna101 Posted December 31, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted December 31, 2007 Thank you everyone for your comments. I didnt think I would get so many responses since I thought that ships mostly frequented Dubrovnick and not Split. Happy Holidays, Daphna

LEESRE Posted December 31, 2007 #8 Share Posted December 31, 2007 I must agree with Flowlegs, we just walked on our own had a drink in one of the many bars cafe's on the ater front and had an ice cream they are wonderfull. You can also walk around the town quite easily and then just listen to the guides on the side if you want to know which buildings are which. Very good shopping and a fab market. Quite cheap too.
