Toyz711 Posted December 31, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2007 best to ask this on the alaska boards: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=55 actually, just check once in a while, it should start being asked about every day...very soon, now:D during the summer, it doens't get dark enough for the northern light to show. best viewing during winter. most cruiser don't go far enough north to get the best views. on my cruise, sept 2006...too much overcast/fogs. it was dark enough but not clear enough. i cruised from seattle, someone who cruised, that same date, from whittier, did see some..faintly. hvsteve1 Posted January 2, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2008 Northern Lights are what keep the Alaska tourist economy going in the winter months. When we were staying in Fairbanks, the hotel manager was telling us the big tourist influx there is from Japan. The Japanese love the lights and there are many chartered planes bringing them in for a week at a time to stay in the hotels and watch for the lights. If they get lucky, the display is fantastic, supposedly having exciting sounds as well as views.
