Have you lost that loving feeling?

There's an interesting post over on the X board that I think in interesting. I'm not sure, but I think it's a situation that hits cruisers of non-NCL lines more than those of us who prefer NCL. For any of you who feel that your cruise experiance doesn't WOW you anymore, take a ganger.

I think BrendaJ sums things up well

I've spent the last hour trying to figure out what "ganger" means. I just filled in my own meaning. LOL. Very good post. My wife and I discuss this subject often. I have an office in my house and all 4 walls are covered with pictures of family, friends, cruises etc. There are over 800 pictures and are a constant reminder to how great a life we have had. Of course, there are no pictures of me up there.

When I went to Europe on my first NCL cruise (what a first cruise-the Mediterranean!) it was also my first time in Europe and was bittersweet. My father is NEVER getting on a plane so, barring divorcing my dad (not likely), my mom is never going to experience what I did. I get picture happy, mostly to show my mom the places she might never see. So far, every cruise we've taken has included somewhere new. As long as I have some new memory to have, cruising won't get too blase to me.

I had read, and enjoyed, that thread earlier today. It was a good idea on your part to bring it over here also.

I can't imagine though, why you think that it wouldn't be the same for people who prefer NCL. I, personally, have no preference for any line but have become more jaded when it comes to cruises in general. Even so - I still love them. :)

I just thought that the lines that were more traditional would have more people experiencing higher expectations, thus losing that loving feeling.

I only know NCL and so all I know is Freestyle and some extra pay resturants. My expectations involve everything that NCL offers and NCL seems like they are going to implement things that are only going to make the cruise experience better.

I know it almost sounds like my expectations are so low that the only way to go is up  but that's not it. I just think those who mainly stick with NCL seem to have more things to look forward to not looking back at the way things used to be and lose sight of the glorious vacation that a cruise is.

OK I'm babbling now, so I'll stop typing :)

Your explanation does make sense. I've been around since the good old days on NCL also so I must admit I miss what they used to be. NCL was awesome in 1995! :D

I sort of figured that. LOL. 75 minutes left in 2007 and I'm typing away. I'd rather be in the ships casino right now.

I almost posted that I'd rather be in the galley; not going that far though...Happy New Year!:) :D

I am about to set sail on my third cruise. My first was about ten years ago. This will be my first NCL and my children's first cruise. I have not lost that lovin feeling...maybe because I have not taken that many yet and maybe because I am trying a new cruise line for the first time.... and maybe because I get to enjoy this with my adult children.

I feel fortunate that I am able to afford being able to do this, and sad that my husband did not live long enough to do it with me.

I sit here and read the posts sometimes about the gripes and think Wow people take a reality check, there are many people who would LOVE to be able to do what we are doing.

We used to be X cruisers exclusively. Ultimately, it felt a little "same old same old" with maybe some moderately unattractive changes following the RCI merger. We didn't want to become complainers. It's a big planet with lots of vacation choices. So we decided to branch out, try more types of cruises, and more cruise lines. We still occasionally take non-cruise vacations. We book high end, low end, big rooms, tiny rooms. Peak weeks and off weeks. We love them all. The anticipation before the cruise is excruciatingly fun and exciting.

Blessings are much more than money. A little film on El Salvador's Civil War, Innocent Voices, is based on one family's experiences. Despite the terrible situation, where the war literally came into their house from time to time as front lines shifted, many of their dinners were filled with love and laughter. Their happiness (as does ours) came from their connections to one another, gratitude for what they had, and hope for the future. I wish each of you this sense of well being, whether you are fortunate enough to cruise every few months or only once in a lifetime.

I appreciate the link. We are so blessed to be able to take the exotic vacations that we enjoy today. Our grandparents couldn't even dream of such things.

Actually, my grandparents were able to take some cruises that were more exotic than the ones I can take. In their day, you could take a ship from the UK to Australia at almost anytime of the year -- 6 weeks at sea with some very exotic stops en route. Think Mombasa, Mauritius, Madagascar, etc.

Also, from the USA there were the storied 'slow boats to China' -- passenger service from the West Coast to Shanghai. Nowadays, transpacific voyages are few and far between.

My wife and I like cruises with lots of days at sea -- hard to find nowadays, except for the 'round the world' voyages and the summertime transatlantic trips.
