MNbarMAN Posted January 2, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2008 We are on the Jan. 13th sailing of the Dawn. The itinerary is unique in that we dock in St. Thomas at 7:30am. NCL says disembarkation begins 2 hours after docking. Does that always hold true? Could we possibly get off earlier? We want to make the 9am Charlotte Amalie ferry to St. John. If we don't make the 9am from CA, we will taxi to Red Hook where the ferry is hourly. Otherwise we could wait for the 11am CA ferry, but we have a dinghy rented on St. John and want to get there as soon as possible. We don't leave St. Thomas until 7pm. Anybody know how soon we could expect to get off the ship that day? Also, how far is it to the Charlotte Amalie ferry to St. John from where the Dawn will be docked? Thanks for any help you can provide. MNbarMAN
wrp96 Posted January 2, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2008 You should be docked at Havensight. A taxi to downtown CA should be around 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic. If you get off the ship early enough, I would try for the 9am ferry from Red Hook as that will get you to St. John sooner than the 9am from Charlotte Amalie. MNbarMAN Posted January 2, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted January 2, 2008 How much time would you allow yourself to take a taxi to the Red Hook ferry? It will be a Wednesday morning around 8 or 8:15am I'm hoping. Does anyone know how soon we might possibly get off the ship if docking at 7:30am? NickCDN Posted January 2, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 2, 2008 Thats wierd that you are going to be in St Thomas on the Wednesday. We are on the Feb 10 sailing with the same ports of call, but we are in St Thomas on the Thursday from 8-4. I wonder why that is. Nick
wiz54 Posted January 2, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 2, 2008 That is REALLY strange-- I noticed it too-- the itinerary on the web site shows st thomas on wed. but my sister just went on the same cruise and tortola and st thomas were switched with st thomas on thurs. Maybe you should double check! Happy sailing :) Liz
samdham Posted January 2, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2008 I think the 1/13 and 1/20 sailings are slightly different from later sailings. I remember when I was planning our cruise, those two were always listed separately from the rest.

This can be a quick and painless process or it might take a couple of hours. NCL has no control over this, it is up to Customs and Border Patrol. Usually you can be off the ship by 8:15 - 8:30, but it might be later. It is much easier to take the ferry from Red Hook.

The last time we were in St. Thomas everyone had to clear immigration seperately with their passports, and it took awhile, 2 hours after docking may be right. (although all three times we have been to St. Thomas we've docked earlier then expected!) Happy cruising! Kim.
